I did. I am a member of mycokerewards (crap site). There was a chain letter someone posted and I gave away my pass and that hacked my account. I’ve been scammed value cards and stickers on a now extinct gaming site Cartoon Orbits.

You?

No, I do my best to try not get scammed and stay safe, whether it’s offline or on the internet. Fight Identity Theft is a site that I go to now and then to check out and it’s very helpful for people who want information and tips about things like identity theft to fraud. I would never give away my password to anything or anyone and at least it was only a rewards site and not your bank account or anything. 😊

Nothing is ever free.  There is always a catch and a purpose for giving something away for free.  Contests are different because it is transparent and you can see its a partnership with HP and BuzzCorp to try and promote these blogs and the notebook.  However, other sites where you can get something for nothing is just not realistic.

Another good site to see if its a scam or not is http://www.snopes.com
They keep it fairly well up-to-date

I have to say that I have never gotten scammed, I usually can sniff them out. My mom always said yuo never get nothing for free so I always took that into consideration when someone was trying to offer my something for nothing.

Hello I almost got scammed or you could say I was scammed and realized it before it could get out of hand.  I received a email from Paypal looked like the real thing saying that activity had been on my account that looked suspicious.  They asked me to click on the link and log in to verify the transaction.  When I logged in I got this sick feeling like I had been scammed.  I immediately signed out and logged in again and changed my password.  Then I called Paypal to let them know of what happened.  If I had not changed my password as quickly as I did who knows what they would have bought off my credit card.  I felt like an idiot but learned a good lesson.  Now I forward any thing that looks like a scam back to the real url address and let them deal with it.

You have to be really naive to get scammed on the internet! I get so many mails saying that some bloke has left behind a gazillion dollars and he wants to give it to me! I would suggest people actually look into and actively use Anti-Phishing tools because it seems the scammers are getting very adept at making perfect clones of legitimate sites/emails!

Check out this PC World article which actually helped me out a lot: http://pcworld.about.com/news/Apr252005id120501.htm

Cheers and practice safe computing!

I have actually been scammed once or twice.  Probably a few more, haha.  The one time I will NEVER forget it though was when I got scammed on eBay.. Guy was a con artist really was selling colognes/perfumes for REALLY cheap prices so I contacted the other buyers and noone has received anything.. Guys got “away” with over $10,000 in sales.. I got some of my money back thanks to PayPal.. I lost some money so I say I got scammed since I lost some.

I made money on cashcrate.com too. I filled out surveys and I earned $14 which was received. That site is trustworthy. I recommend it.

Never had that bad experience so far & i hope it won’t happen either but lots of people have been scammed here as i could see.Just don’t believe everyone on the net even if pretent to be your friend or so & avoid buying from unknown online Etailers even if you get a huge discounts on something.

That’s a VERY good point, like I said earlier reason I got scammed was for trying to obtain something for a much lesser price, in the end I just lost money.  So yeah stay away from eShops that offer any kind of good for a lesser price, and by lesser I mean 40-60% off.

I believe everyone has been scammed once or twice in life.
Back in the free site phase everyone on this board was scammed in one way or another.

I would absolutely hate it if I got scammed and I don’t know exactly what I would do. The thing is to just not think about being scammed and just protect yourself from others/websites/people you don’t know. I hope I will never get scammed, because I would be truly quite depressed and well, wondering what I did wrong.
