I’m a casual gamer with a more than casual interest in gaming news, I read many of the game sites and liten to several podcasts almost every day.

But my philosophy has been, it’s not about the system, it’s about the fun.

Usually I’m an almost-too late-adopter.  Growing up, we had some sort of pong/jailai/skeet shoot system. Then we had an Atari 2600 knock-off from Sears. Then after I moved out of the house, I bought some weird little system that you hooked up to your TV and VCR to shoot down planes or criminals in a police training manner via video tape and a light gun and sensor that you stuck in the lower right corner of your TV.  Eventually, I bought the SNES about a year before they moved on to the N64 which I didn’t follow on with. Instead I waited until about 2005 before purchasing an X-box. However, it could just as easily have been a PS2. Whatever popped out of my mouth first was what I was going to buy.

However, I did pay for a 360 before they came out and finally got mine the January following launch and haven’t had any problems with it.

Do I think it’s better than a PS3? Don’t know/don’t care. I’m having fun with it and enjoying making it my own through little add-ons. If I had a PS3 or a wii, I’m sure I’d be just as happy if I was having fun.

Pardon me, maybe I’m missing the point bu,t I thought that was the point. Not how many pixels or transistors a system has this itereation.

BSV is my new favorite fan!! First, because he owned an Atari 2600 (rock on, 80s child!!)..

... and second, because he proves my point!

I *am* a genius!

Hey!

I had that Atari, and Our family had that thing that had Pong!!

Yes, that dates me just a little, but I remember arcades before video games.

Pinball any one?!

Pinball any one?!

I remember my first arcade experience. There was a bowling alley not too far from where w lived in Michigan that my dad used to go to all of the time. They had this litlle10x20’ room off to the one end where they had several pinball machines and a pong cabinet. But the game I remember most was this cabinet that looked like the great white shark from the then recently released movie Jaws. I forget if you played the shark or the swimmer but it was certainly an eye catching game for the time.

Most if not all of my arcade visits, to that and others later, were mostly spent watching someone else play which was fine with me since:

1.) I was to young to have any money;
2.) Didn’t get an allowance and;
3.) I wasn’t going to be staying long because I had to be home from school or I was on my way to do something else.

It satisfied my curiosity about the game and gave me some inexpensive entertainment.

Now, however, I’m relishing the fact that I can get those retro games through compilations for the original Xbox or Live Arcade Wednesdays for the 360 so that I can actually play them for myself.

Yeah, I’m one of the few that isn’t complaining about all the retro games XBLA puts out because now I can relive what I missed out on in my childhood.  I even am planning to take a large, flat panel, HD LCD screen and create a sort of arcade machine with both Microsoft consoles as the heart of the system and set it up in one corner for those times I want to take a trip down memory lane. 😊

No, my first console was an NES…

<_<

‘Zactly.

It’s just about impossible to avoid having been a gamer of one sort or another for anyone under 40 unless you’ve made a consious decision to NOT own a console.

... and dude, how did you survive before Xbox or PS3 without a PS2??? Did you really entirely miss the GTA series?

No, I played Vice City quite a bit. For me (and my friends), Vice City was more of a multiplayer experience. I eventually got it for Xbox, but… meh. It had lost all the grandeur, by then.

The way that I survived before the current generation (360/PS3/Wii) was the following sequence: NES, SNES/Genesis, N64, GameCube, GBA, Xbox. I was pretty diehard Nintendo, for a while…

My brother also had a Dreamcast, but I didn’t play it much.

no not a troll.
I think the gta4 delay could hurt sales.
and a 360 price cut would be very bad…
shame the hd dvd is a dead format.

So a 360 price cut would be very bad? ...for Sony.
What does HD-DVD have to do with anything? 360 isn’t depending on its success, and its got nothing to do with this thread.
So there you have two troll comments right there 😊

Ok, you realize how big a bowl of ######## those numbers are?  10.3 million Xbox 360’s worldwide huh?? Wow, that’s amzing considering that Microsoft announced 11.4 million sold at E3 a month ago.

The source of these numbers are questionable dude, yet you keep citing them.

Two things. First, the price of the Xbox was just lowered this week in the U.S. Expect to see
a surge in sales very soon. Second, Hawkes is definitely right MS (as well as other credible sources)
have shown sales of over 11 million consoles worldwide. Dante, I’m not familiar with this site you’ve
been quoting. Are they reputable and unbiased..?
