It seems everyone has something to say about the third (final?) installment of the Spiderman series.  Is it the perfect end to the perfect trilogy, or a muddled mess of special effects and shallow conflict?

Well I’ll be surprised if this is the last instalment of the creepy crawler. The money is too big for the large movie companies to give up now. The effects were great, but the story needed a little more help. Granny was a little annoying, but the Sandman was killer. I think they left it open for the Sandman to make a return. I’m looking forward to another spidy movie.

**Warning!  Spoilers included!  if you haven’t yet seen it, turn away!**

Dude, I just came home from seeing it.  Was pretty good overall.  The Sandman fight seen by the subway was awesome, emotional moments and deception were pretty entertaining, and the fight scene at the end where Spiderman and the New Goblin face off against Sandman and Venom was pretty climactic.

The moments I didn’t like was most obviously the Peter Parkers emo moments after he turned into the black-suited Spiderman.  That haircut with hair hanging over one eye and bad boy image the character was taking on was a little goofy, especially that jazz club scene and the walking all tough in front of others thing.  It was a little strange and off-putting to tell you the truth when connecting it with the rest of the movie, but was more than likely done for comical effect to make fun of a goofy dork and emo kids.  Was kind of funny though.

Overall grade: B+ or A-

Spiderman 3 is the least satisfying of the series, and I think the problem stems from having too many villians in a single movie.  Each confrontation becomes less and less satisfying.  Had they concentrated on one villian, or even two, the movie would have been a lot tighter.

Totally agree, starcade.  Too much conflict in too little time.  In fact, you’ll see just what I thought on an upcoming episode of FilmCrunch — should be up in the next week or so.  Veronica and I really lay into the film and why it couldn’t hold up against the first two.  Here’s to hoping the fourth installment brings the series back to its more methodical roots — slow at times, but funny, thrilling, and dramatic in just the right measure.
