Engadget has an article on how to rip your DVD films (VOB files), and convert them to AVI, then to MP4. Doing these three steps will ensure that you have no sound sync issues.

For you convenience, here are the direct links to the three pieces of software you will need:
3GP Converter - Scroll down and click on the “English” option. This is what you would drag your AVI file to, for conversion to MP4.
DVDDecrypter - To rip the VOB file from a DVD to your drive.
AutoGordianKnot - To convert the VOB to an AVI file.
You’re going to need a 1GB Pro Duo Card to store your videos in, unless you’re willing to risk lower quality video settings. Here’s the lowest priced card you can currently find:
$106.75 Shipped! - No Credit Card charge until it ships. Expected arrival is on Feb 28th.
