Katie Holmes Takes Fashion Advice From Suri

Katie Holmes says her four-year-old daughter Suri Cruise has a "great eye" for fashion.

The actress - whose husband Tom Cruise has previously revealed the stylish tot gives him fashion advice - says Suri knows what looks good and often takes fashion advice from the youngster.

"She'll really tell me what she thinks. Like today I'm wearing brown suede pants, and she said, 'I don't like your pants.' But then she'll say, 'You've got to wear these shoes.' Or 'That's so pretty, Mom. Wear that.' She's got a great eye."

Along with giving her famous parents fashion advice, the little girl also has very definite ideas about her own style and is vocal about where she loves to shop. "The other day we came out of a store, and she said, 'I want to go there,' pointing at another store quite a distance away. In that store was the dress that she wanted. I said, 'Wow, Suri. You're something. You picked that out from a football field away,'" she told ELLE magazine.

Katie and Tom both take a relaxed approach to dressing Suri and let her choose her own outfits because of her obvious interest in fashion.

Suri Cruise Designs Her Own Clothes

Four year-old Suri Cruise designs her own clothes.

The daughter of Katie Holmes and Tom Cruise, Holmes claims that Suri chooses her own designs and has done so since she was just 18 months.

“I grew up the youngest of five, so there were a lot of hand-me-downs that I would sort of change up.  And Suri and I do that now with her clothes. Or rather, she does it. She says, ‘I want this sleeve cut,’ and it’s like, ‘Okay, we’ll cut it.’ She picks out all of her own clothes and has since she was one-and-a-half.”

Katie, 31, also claims to have had a hand in making clothes for her, but has to get someone else to sew them as she doesn’t have the necessary skills: “I started making clothes for Suri when she was born, designing dresses, and then having seamstresses sew them, because I don’t sew very well. As a child, I was always drawing clothes, and I’ve always loved fabrics, and when Suri was born, I wanted to have certain things be from me and created just by me for her.”

Tom Cruise Wants Katie to Design Menswear

Tom Cruise wants his wife Katie Holmes to design a menswear range.

The former Dawson’s Creek actress launched her debut fashion collection Holmes & Yang - which was co-designed by her stylist and friend Jeanne Yang - two years ago and while it has been successful among women, Katie’s superstar husband is keen for the duo to branch out.

“The husbands always hang out at our meetings. They say, ‘When are you guys going to do the men’s collection?’”

As well as having a husband who wants some clothes designed for him, Katie also revealed Holmes & Yang are creating matching outfits for mothers and daughters to wear together. The 31-year-old beauty - who has a four-year-old daughter Suri with Tom - said, “They love matching mom. And it’s a limited time during which they really want to.”

Katie says she and Jeanne came up with the idea to do a clothing range as they wanted women to have wardrobes staple-based with uniforms for everyday wear: “We want to create pieces a woman can wear over and over, and people won’t necessarily say, ‘Oh, you wore that last week.’”

Make no mistake - Suri Cruise is her own stylist.

The three-year-old tot, daughter of Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes, dresses herself and chooses all her outfits. Dad Tom said, “Just so you know, she dresses herself. She picks out everything on her own.”

Mum Katie - who has her own clothing line Holmes + Yang - admits she’s a huge admirer of her daughter’s sense of fashion: “She has such cute style.”

Although Suri chooses her own outfits, it was recently reported Katie spends $25,000 a month on her daughter’s clothes as she wants her to be the “most fashionable kid in Hollywood.”

A source said, “Dressing Suri in amazing outfits has become Katie’s favorite hobby. She’ll scour the internet and Beverly Hills shops to find items and get inspiration for different looks. One of Katie’s favorite looks is 80s-inspired - she puts Suri in leggings and long sweatshirts or bright dresses. Suri loves getting involved and choosing things too.”

Katie Holmes and Suri Wear Matching Dresses

Judging by a photo taken of Katie Holmes and her daughter Suri, the actress-turned-designer wasn’t kidding about that children’s collection; I was hoping she would at least spare the kids.

In the picture, Holmes and her mature daughter stepped out in matching red dresses from her range, Holmes & Yang.

I’m still in shock that Maxfield actually chose these designs over Victoria Beckham’s creations. Holmes could at least try to make her outfit look good (Suri, on the other hand, looks adorable)—is her stylist too busy sewing more ugly products?
