Quote of the Day: Nicola Formichetti on Styling
Posted by Robin Paulson Categories: Fashion Designers, Health & Beauty, Models,

“I was only used to dressing models and skinny kids. And I turned up and it was, like, three fat guys. I just left. That was the last time I tried to work with fat people. I think one of them was Ali G’s brother. It was so ghetto.”
- Thierry Mugler creative director and Lady Gaga stylist Nicola Formichetti on styling a disastrous photo shoot.

Crystal Renn Lands Her First Vogue Cover
Posted by Robin Paulson Categories: Editorials, Health & Beauty, Models,
The year 2011 has thus far been a promising one for Crystal Renn, who landed her first Vogue cover for Vogue Mexico's April issue.
Photographed by David Roemer and styled by Sarah Gore-Reeves, Renn brings out the fun, excitement of fashion with her poses and lights up the magazine's pages while also welcoming spring with bold, bright lips, eyeshadow, nails, and clothes.
Admittedly, the coveted Vogue cover gig was long overdue for Renn, who has previously starred in several Vogue editorials, including a food-centric one shot by Terry Richardson under the former Vogue Paris editor-in-chief Carine Roitfeld.
Turned away from a Vogue Italia cover for not being able to fit into the dress the magazine desired, Renn now has been vindicated with a cover that has received an overwhelming amount of praise, prompting many to believe she may appear on the American edition soon.
Check out the rest of the story after the jump for more photos and a behind-the-scenes video!

Rachel Zoe Feels Pressure for Clothing Collection
Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Celebrities, Fashion Designers, News,
Rachel Zoe doesn't want people to be disappointed by her debut clothing range.
The fashionista -- who made her name as a stylist to the stars with clients including Nicole Richie, Kate Hudson and Demi Moore -- is set to launch her first fashion line, The Rachel Zoe Collection, and is keen for it to live up to expectations.
"I'm a Virgo and I'm more -- I don't want to say negative -- but I'm the girl who thinks no one's coming to my birthday party, no one's buying my clothes, no one's reading my book, no one's watching my show -- that's just how I think. The same applies to this. I don't want to let people down. That said, she made a pointed effort to shake things up. I'd imagine everybody is expecting something from me that's kind of a 70s, uberboho-glam kind of thing, and, you know, very accessorised. And it's not."

Presented at the British Fashion Awards (where McQueen was posthumously awarded Outstanding Achievement in Fashion Design), the short film features music by Bjork and the styling talents of Edward Enninful.
"We felt it was important to have the clothes featured one last time on flesh and blood before the [Costume Institute at the Metropolitan Museum of Art] takes them away," Knight said.
And what an imaginative, beautiful way for the clothes' last show -- check out the video above.

Mulleavy Sisters Guest Edit Lula Issue, Style Kirsten Dunst
Posted by Robin Paulson Categories: Celebrities, Editorials, Fashion Designers, News,
Despite the high pressure demands of designing their Rodarte line, Kate and Laura Mulleavy somehow managed to both design costumes for Black Swan and guest edit next month's issue of Lula!
In the Fall/Winter 2010 issue -- on newsstands now -- the creative duo styled a Kirsten Dunst editorial shot by their friend Autumn de Wilde, designed Charlotte Gainsbourg's cover dress, and cajoled Tavi Gevinson and Sofia Coppola to contribute to the fashion mag.
The magazine also includes behind-the-scenes shots of Natalie Portman in Black Swan designs, which show more of the intricacies the sisters are known for that were lost somewhat in the film. Nan Goldin shoots the main editorial featuring Gainsbourg, which was styled by Leith Clark.
All in all, the few previews of the magazine that are out (seen after the jump) are sure to please any Rodarte/Mulleavy fan (or anyone who adores fashion, anyway!).

Robert Verdi Wants to Style, Revamp Jessica Simpson
Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Celebrities, Fashion Designers,
Robert Verdi wants to help Jessica Simpson revamp her look. The stylist to the stars says the singer-and-actress is quite "boring" with her fashion choices and wants to update her whole wardrobe.
"Her look is boring. I would change her up constantly because she is not diverse enough. I would give her a Hitchcock heroine look, a 50s look, and some serious 60s hippie look."
While he's not a fan of her look, Robert believes she has the cut right with her clothes: "Tight always looks better than loose when you are being photographed and when you are on television. You are on the side of tight no matter what."
Jessica Simpson - whose weight has fluctuated over the years - recently revealed how she loves clothes which give her a nipped-in waist and show off her womanly curves. "I'm a huge Jean Paul Gaultier fan. His pieces make my waist look good. Yes, they're an investment, but I'll have them when I'm old and grey."

—Brad Goreski is leaving Rachel Zoe. Don’t worry for him, though—the split is supposedly amicable.
—Terry Richardson has recruited Crystal Renn for a French Vogue shoot which calls for her eating various foods in overly sexual poses.
—Speaking of Terry, Marvel’s Uncanny X-Men #528 comments on a Barry Richardman whose name is not the only thing the character has in common with the controversial photographer. According to the two X-Men, Richardman’s “art is cheap, exploitative porn,” and “what he does to models is borderline assault and unquestionably cruel.”
—Lady Gaga attended her grandfather’s funeral on Monday looking surprisingly normal (as opposed to the last family event she attended—her sister’s graduation).

Style Icon Kate Moss
Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Fashion Designers, Fashion Shows, Health & Beauty, Models,
Amanda Ross thinks Kate Moss is the ultimate style icon.
The Lipstick Jungle stylist - who is the Global Fashion Director for W Hotels Worldwide - says she is a huge fan of the supermodel’s dress sense because she has her own unique look and is always so well turned out. :“I really love how Kate Moss looks. She knows a style that’s good for her and always looks great. She’s such a trendsetter too. I also like the way Charlize Theron and Marion Cotillard dress as they always look so elegant and sophisticated,” said Amanda, who recently helped W Hotels formally launch its Winter 2010/Resort 2011 Global Glam collection at New York Fashion Week.
Her new role for W Hotels means Amanda gets to travel all over the world and admits one of her favorite cities is Copenhagen in Denmark because the people are all so stylish. Speaking at the launch of designer James Small’s new movie Journey, where guests included Kate and Sadie Frost, said, “I’m so fortunate that I get to go to all these fantastic places and I’d have to say Copenhagen is the most stylish city for me. I mean, London, New York, Paris and Milan are great but there’s just something special about Copenhagen.”

Zandra Rhodes Wants Lady Gaga
Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Celebrities, Fashion Designers,
Zandra Rhodes would love to dress Lady Gaga.
The British designer, who famously designed clothes for Britain’s late Princess Diana and Queen frontman Freddie Mercury, wants the challenge of working with the “Alejandro” singer because she thinks the results would be “extraordinary.”
“I just love how she puts her own take on things - I could make her a transparent kaftan and she’d look fabulous. One could do something quite extraordinary with her,” said Zandra, who is known for her eccentric dress sense.
The 69-year-old fashionista - who has recently been in San Francisco creating outfits for the female stars of Aida at the Houston Grand Opera - says if she ever got the opportunity to work with Lady Gaga, she would want to get her into her studio: “If she did ever want me to design her something, I’d do what I did with Freddie Mercury and Queen - I’d just get her to come over and she could pick out the sort of thing she fancied and I’d work with that. It’s all about seeing how something moves. She could try a few pieces on and we could go from there.”
Olsens Twins, Victoria Beckham Want to Dress Michelle Obama
Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Celebrities, Fashion Designers, Health & Beauty, News,
Twin fashionistas Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen want to dress Michelle Obama.
The 24-year-old sisters have three fashion lines - The Row, Elizabeth + James and Olsenboye - and say they would love to see the First Lady in some of their designs from their most upmarket range.
“I’d love to get Michelle Obama in The Row. The simple suits and things. It’s all made in America, so why not?” Ashley said.
Mary-Kate also revealed how she and Ashley were taught to dress tastefully and elegantly from an early age: “When we were growing up, our mother taught us never to have your belly button exposed.”
The Olsen twins aren’t the only designers who have expressed a desire to work with Michelle. Victoria Beckham says she would love to create a dress for the First Lady because she’s such a “strong woman.”
“I would love to dress Mrs. Obama absolutely absolutely absolutely! I just think she’s incredible and she’s a very strong woman and she’s beautiful. I love women and I just want to make women feel good and beautiful and it’s just been a huge compliment that ladies have enjoyed wearing my dresses and they look great! It just goes to show they can flatter women of all different shapes and sizes, all different heights, and that’s what it’s about. It’s about creating an illusion and having a great cut.”
