Roland Mouret Thrilled With Royal Design

Duchess Catherine in Roland MouretRoland Mouret loved working alongside Britain's Duchess Catherine to create her raciest dress so far.

The French fashion designer believes he did "quite well" to come up with the brunette royal's most daring gown to date, a full-length cream evening dress featuring a front split, which she wore to a dinner at luxury hotel Claridge's in London's Mayfair last month.

"I think it was quite fantastic that there was a split up the front. That picture of a woman when you catch a little of the leg, that's what you want to see. It's that notion of privacy. It's something that should be for her husband and she just shows a glimpse of it and I think that is one of the more amazing moments of life. You feel happy when you see that. It was not too much. It was with a lot of respect. Yes, I think I did... quite well."

Roland Mouret to Close Menswear Label

Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Celebrities, Fashion Designers, News, Men,

Roland MouretRoland Mouret is closing his eponymous menswear label. The designer has decided to axe his range of men's clothes as he wants to concentrate on the launch of three new womenswear categories in 2012 - footwear, bridalwear and a cocktail collection.

"The company has made a decision to realign its focus on continuing the growth of its successful womenswear business, and, as a result, the MR menswear line has been put on hold, effective immediately," a statement read.

Roland launched his menswear line in Paris in January 2010 and is currently stocked at Mr Porter, Browns, Harrods and Selfridges.

Roland, whose celebrity fans include Victoria Beckham, Cameron Diaz and Duchess Catherine, recently said men can't be forced to learn about fashion: "Men are more shy and proud. Women are more curious and frivolous. Even the more controlled and classic women will try something new for the sake of girliness. They may say, 'I hate it,' but they try it. You have to allow men to learn about fashion. You can't force them because they are so proud; they may take offense and block themselves."

Victoria Beckham Flattered by Mouret Comparisons

Victoria Beckham and Roland MouretVictoria Beckham is flattered that people think Roland Mouret designs her fashion label. The former Spice Girl-turned-fashion designer often has to contend with reports claiming Roland does all her work for her and while she insists it's not true, she looks at it as a compliment.

"I suppose if people think the clothes are too good for me to have designed them, that's a backhanded compliment. Look, I don't draw, but nor do lots of designers. I tie things around me. I experiment with ideas and I try to work out a way to make everything flattering and make a woman feel beautiful. Oprah Winfrey recently asked me to make her a dress. I must be doing something right."

Although Victoria lives in Los Angeles with her soccer star husband David Beckham and their three sons, her label is based in England so she often flies over to the UK to work on it. "I literally land, go straight to the studio, work till really late, go to the hotel and get up early the next day and do it again. But I don't see this as work. At 18 I was in the Spice Girls. But I wasn't very good, let's be honest, I didn't really, you know. sing. This is something I can do."

Roland Mouret Launches Rainbow Line

Roland Mouret for Net-A-PorterRoland Mouret’s “Rainbow” range for Net-A-Porter has been launched today.

The French designer - whose legendary moon dress was made famous by Spice Girls singer Victoria Beckham - has teamed up with the London-based luxury online clothing store to create an exclusive brightly-colored range of dresses under his RM by Roland Mouret label.

The party styles include six mini-dresses and one mini-skirt with a luxurious silk appearance made from draped fabrics which effortlessly conceal lumps and bumps and result in an extremely flattering fit. The frocks can be bought at Net-A-Porter.

This is not the first time the iconic dress designer has worked on a range of fun party dresses. Last year, it was revealed Roland, 47, would team up with singer-turned-designer Victoria to create a limited edition range of little black dresses. Victoria first became a fan of Roland in 2006, when she was seen wearing his 50s-style Galaxy grey dress. The following year, she donned his skintight Moon dress in hot pink when her soccer star husband David made his first appearance for the Los Angeles Galaxy.
