Items Du Jour: Lara Stone Covers Vogue Again, Alber Elbaz Cares

Pregnant Lily Allen at Givenchy—A pregnant Lily Allen showed up at Givenchy in some chic pregnancy wear. True to Fall/Winter looks, she kept it simple and Parisian with a gray long coat, white blouse, and black pumps.

Glee star Lea Michele has become quite the fashion darling, striking a pose with Zac Posen. With her nude robe-like dress, I’d say that she has some more styling etiquette to learn.

—Alber Elbaz is probably the sweetest, most caring designer. The Lanvin creative gave his models the option of wearing comfy gladiator sandals (at the last minute!) for his Spring/Summer 2011 show.

—After scoring Vogue Paris‘s coveted 90th anniversary cover, Lara Stone is right back on Vogue—this time, it’s in her native UK mag.

—Finally taking a cue from some sensible publicists, American Apparel attempts to save the brand’s image in some new ads that feature a less-creepy Dov in the face of their financial woes. He just still couldn’t resist shooting the ads in his bed.

Tom Ford on Verge of Designing Womenswear

Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Fashion Designers, News, Rumors, Women,

Tom Ford wants to design womenswear when he has the moneyTom Ford says that he will release a womenswear collection when he finds the time and money.

The former Gucci and YSL designer is keen to have a female range, but admits he is waiting for the appropriate funding: “Financing is extremely expensive right now, so if we find financing in the right situation we’ll be able to start a women’s collection soon. If we don’t, we may have to wait a while. You know it will take me 18 months when I start, because I have to hire the team, find the factories, put everything together and then get the stores ready so there’s a place for these clothes.”

The 48-year-old also revealed sales of his menswear collection are doing very well: “Things are getting better every day in most places. So I’m optimistic and this is something that I plan on doing for the next 30 years of my life, so if I have to wait another six months or a year (to launch women’s) it’s ok.”

Christian Lacroix Now Designs Jets

Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Fashion Designers, News, Rumors, Sales,

Christian LacroixFrom one runway to another, Christian Lacroix is set to design private jets.

The French designer, who filed for bankruptcy earlier this year, is in talks with Sheikh Hassan bin Ali al-Nuaimi—the nephew of United Arab Emirates ruler Ajman—about investing $70 million in the company. Al-Nuaimi wants to become the majority stakeholder and despite the current global economic downturn, the sheikh has bold plans for the brand. He is keen to transform the fashion label into a luxury lifestyle brand with a range of products including lavish palaces, planes and hotels.

Al-Nuaimi said, “The idea is not to focus on fashion by itself. We are discussing different activities in leisure… private jets, hotels, high-quality yachts, palaces, and interior decoration. We will focus on very exclusive areas and don’t want to sell his name cheap in the market.”

Lacroix, who counts Christina Aguilera among his celebrity fans, will need approval from a French court before the deal goes ahead. A decision is set to be made by the end of the month.
