Erin O’Connor Wants Tougher Model Laws

Erin O'Connor says there must tougher laws to protect models under the age of 16.
The British supermodel - founder of the temporarily closed respite center Model Sanctuary - is supporting a group of MPs who are campaigning for model protection laws for young females in the industry:
"Back in 2007, the fashion industry had recently undergone a turbulent and reflective period which resulted in the recommendations of the Model Health Inquiry. Out of those recommendations, the decision to protect under 16-year-olds from appearing on the catwalk was one of the most impacting. It seemed to me that there was mounting pressure on both sides, not only for young models at a crucial stage in their mental and physical development, but also for some members of the wider community who look to fashion to influence their own body aesthetic. It is imperative that we continue to secure the welfare of our younger participants and we should always aim to do that in an empowered and creative way. It's for reasons such as this that I founded the model sanctuary. We aim to encourage a strong ethic of self-reliance, awareness and belief with the encouragement of our friendly and experienced team of professionals."

Erin O’Connor Grateful For Short Hair

Erin O'Connor only became a successful model after cutting off all her hair.
The 32-year-old beauty says she wasn't getting very many jobs when she first started out in the industry because she looked so similar to the other girls, so took advice and chopped off her long locks.
"When I first began modeling I was very conventional looking - I had hair down to my waist. I went on a photo shoot and a make-up artist told me 'You need to cut off your hair - it's doing you no favors. If you do that we'll see you.' A new identity was born for me - quite tough, quite unapologetic but definitely there."
Erin recently revealed she has no plans to retire from the catwalk, despite being one of the more older models. "I hate that idea of retirement or 'You're past your sell-by-date.' That is very odd, because, for me, it is about moving, showcasing and being an outrageous poser. You'd think after 15 years I would be bored, but I'm not. The catwalk is like liberation, because there is a bit of performance involved, a bit of skill thrown in, so it doesn't matter what age you are."

Age is nothing but a number for Erin O’Connor, who has no plans to retire from the catwalk.
The 32-year-old beauty wants to carry on down the runway for as long as possible as she doesn’t think age has anything do to with a model’s ability to pose for the cameras.
“I hate that idea of retirement or ‘You’re past your sell-by-date.’ That is very odd, because, for me, it is about moving, showcasing and being an outrageous poser.”
Erin says she absolutely loves being in the fashion industry and finds being on the catwalk liberating: “You’d think after 15 years I would be bored, but I’m not. The catwalk is like liberation, because there is a bit of performance involved, a bit of skill thrown in, so it doesn’t matter what age you are.”
Now she is one of the more experienced women in the fashion industry, Erin recently set up the Model Sanctuary, which offers respite and a full-time nutritionist to very young models, as she knows they need help when starting out. “These are really young people. They don’t always realize that they need to set their own boundaries.”
Erin O’Connor Was Pressured to Undergo Plastic Surgery

English model Erin O’Connor claims was told she needed cosmetic surgery in order to succeed.
The supermodel, who is known for her striking facial features, was originally criticized about her looks and was told she would have to go under the knife for a breast enlargement operation and nose job if she wanted to be a top model.
“In the early days of my modeling career, I think the industry was uncomfortable with how strikingly different I was. For example, I was told to have a nose job and get my breasts done.”
However, the 31-year-old beauty is thrilled she vowed to ignore the negative comments: “I suddenly got very stubborn and thought, ‘Well, no. This is me,’ and suddenly I was being hailed as ‘a new form of beauty.’”
The 6’ 1” tall model is now worried about the increase of people undergoing surgery to improve their self-confidence:
“I am concerned about ageism and the loss of beauty - the perception that as you grow older, you ‘lose your looks’, which I think is diabolical. I worry about how accessible cosmetic surgery has become. Of course, if it has genuinely helped people and their confidence has grown as a result, who am I to form an opinion? But I think there are better routes to confidence than trying to freeze time.”

Katie Price will make her catwalk debut at the Clothes Show London.
The former glamour model, who goes by the stage name Jordan, will take to the runway next Friday to showcase clothing from her equestrian line KP Collection at the fashion event at the city’s ExCel Centre. Model Erin O’Connor and presenter George Lamb will open the event and host the 2,500-seat fashion theater on the Friday and Saturday, while Nicky Hambleton-Jones, who used to host British makeover TV show 10 Years Younger, will host the theatre on the Sunday, as well as offering expert advice and opinion in the Style Lounge. Andrew Collinge, Errol Douglas and Lee Stafford will be among the celebrity hairdressers showing off their skills and Lisa Snowdon will be among presenters of the Clothes Show Style awards.
Meanwhile, it has been revealed Katie’s perfume is the worst-selling celebrity scent on a beauty website. Her fragrance, Stunning, accounted for just 0.37 percent of Feel Unique’s sales over the past 12 months - a stark contrast to the 34 per cent of sales generated by Britney Spears’ perfume collections. Sarah Jessica Parker and the late Jade Goody brought in 16 and 14 per cent of sales respectively. Beauty manager Siobhan McDermott said: “It’s interesting to see Britney is currently enjoying the sweet smell of success whereas Katie is struggling to kick up a stink.”
