Items Du Jour: Britney Goes Platinum, Tyra’s War on “Plus-Size” Term

+ The Kardashian trio unveiled their latest clothing collection, which they launched in collaboration with British retailer Lipsy. Unsurprisingly, Kourtney, Kim, and Khloe model off their floral, curve-hugging dresses in the adverts for the line (perhaps it's the only way they'd be able to sell it?). Major kudos that they're not of the typical sequined and glittery New Year's Eve dress fare, but at the same time, I can't imagine women flocking to the stores (or in Americans' cases, online store) for a summery frock when they're looking for something festive.
+ Britney Spears surprised fans with a Twitter photo showcasing her new hair color: platinum blonde. Love it or leave it?
+ Tyra Banks seems to have joined Jennifer Lawrence in the war against negative body image words, claiming that she refuses to utter "plus-size," instead opting for "fiercely real." Not sure how quickly the latter will catch on, but it's a start!

Items Du Jour: Ralph Lauren Casts Plus-Size Model, Rashida Flaunts It
Posted by Robin Paulson Categories: Celebrities, Editorials, Fashion Designers, Fashion Shows, Rumors,
+ After having caused previous controversy with their Photoshop-happy campaigns, Ralph Lauren has hired plus-size model Robyn Lawley for their upcoming campaign. The 23 year-old size 8 model has previously been published in Vogue Italia and French Elle.
+ George Michael and Kate Moss prove that they're besties on next month's French Vogue cover, which looks more like a paparazzi shot than a major fashion publication's cover.
+ Parks and Recreation star Rashida Jones leaves the laughs at home for her Flaunt photo shoot, in which she trades her girl-next-door image for that of a Victoria's Secret model.
+ What do you do if you're Adele and a major label like Burberry asks you to be the face of their next campaign, yet you can't wear any of their clothes? Easy! You demand that they create some plus-size styles or the deal is a no go.

Gabriella Wilde and Roo Panes are the new faces of Burberry's Fall/Winter 2012-13 campaign.
The British actress-and-model and the musician have replaced Cara Delevingne and Eddie Redmayne to front the range, and Christopher Bailey, Burberry's chief creative officer, is delighted to have attracted the "incredibly talented" pair for the promotion to help bring the collection "to life."
"We wanted to play with everything that's at the heart of the Burberry world - celebrating our brand and London through imagery, film, music, weather and our iconic outerwear, all in a very poetic and British way. Using London as the backdrop, we shot the series of cinematic, emotive black and white images and short films with the incredibly talented Gabriella Wilde and Roo Panes, who effortlessly bring the campaign and our collections to life across all of our platforms."
Gabriella and Roo were photographed by Mario Testino as they posed against Greenwich's Royal Naval College among cinematic smoke and fog, and wet pavements.

Louis Vuitton Named World’s Most Valuable Luxury Brand
Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Fashion Designers, News,
Louis Vuitton has been named the world's most valuable luxury brand.
The French fashion house - whose creative director is Marc Jacobs - took the title for a seventh consecutive year after being valued at $25.9 billion following a study based on analysis of company performance and consumer interviews conducted by global research company Millward Brown Optimor.
Louis Vuitton beat off competition from Hermes, which was second with $19.1 billion, and Swiss watchmakers Rolex were third with $7.17 billion.
"Luxury is seen as a good investment with people increasingly buying classic pieces rather than high fashion. Those who can afford it indulge, including young professionals who, increasingly unable to buy houses, are spending their disposable income on mid-tier luxury," Nick Cooper, managing director of Millward Brown Optimor, said in a statement.

Christopher Bailey’s Clothes Importance
Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Fashion Designers,
Christopher Bailey thinks people should always think what impression their clothes give.
The British designer - who is the chief creative officer of Burberry - believes you never get a second chance to make a first impression and dressing well is important.
"It's so easy to get distracted by what other people think, do or say. But they don't live your life. You need to know what you want and who you are and you have to convey it to others quickly, so you shine at first impression. You may not have a second chance."
However, Christopher warns against trying to follow trends, and thinks people should always have a "balanced" look: ''Wearing color can be gimmicky - you don't want to look like a tangerine walking down the street. It should be sophisticated, making your eyes sparkle and your skin-tone warmer. Balance bold choices with a neutral, so you never appear overwhelmed."
Sarah Jessica Parker Turns Out for Burberry

Fashion week regular Sarah Jessica Parker was among the celebrities in attendance at the Burberry Prorsum fashion show in London yesterday.
The Sex and the City actress donned a military style jacket and a brown skirt for proceedings at the Chelsea College of Art and Design, with TV presenters Cat Deeley and Alexa Chung wearing similar ensembles.
The collection, designed by Burberry stalwart Christopher Bailey, was a sexy combination of animal prints and leather, with studded biker jackets making an appearance on many of the models. Bright, acid yellows and blues also dotted the catwalk - sometimes in the form of belts and bags and others in dresses - adding to the usual khakis and black so associated with Burberry.

Emma Watson Gave Her Brother His Modeling Break
Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Celebrities, Fashion Designers, Models, News,
Gotta love celebrity nepotism: Emma Watson helped give her younger brother his modeling break.
The Harry Potter actress is the face of British fashion house Burberry and sibling Alex was shopping in the store, where he was soon introduced to the firm’s creative director Christopher Bailey.
“I was actually shopping for a suit in Burberry to wear at one of Emma’s Harry Potter premiere’s when someone from the brand approached and said ‘I think I think you should meet with Christopher.’”
Before he knew it, Alex had been cast alongside his famous sister in a Burberry campaign and while he is a novice, Emma has been giving him advice: “It was such a shock but it was a pretty good gig. Emma’s been really great - we get on very well but it’s good to have her there to give me tips. Her main one is to relax and don’t be scared. Easier said than done though. She’s just so efficient!”
Although it wasn’t a career he set out to do, Alex is loving every moment of being a model:

Items Du Jour: Jessica Alba Saves the Day, Tom Ford Confirms Next Film

—Louis Vuitton models walked down the catwalk with temporary tattoos from artist Scott Campbell. Ed Hardy much?
—Actress Jessica Alba has completed her good deed of the week, swaying a 21 year-old Chinese woman from getting plastic surgery to look like her, in hopes of winning her ex-boyfriend back.
—Burberry’s Fall/Winter 2010 ad campaign has hit the interwebs. The photos star a beautiful and British blend of models and musicians. Great, another reason to be jealous of not being British.
—After the critical success of his directorial debut, it’s no wonder that Tom Ford is taking on a second film. Unfortunately, he’s not letting any details slip just yet.
—Emma Watson attended the Glastonbury Music Festival looking somewhat stylish. I’m loving her Louis Vuitton corset, but not necessarily agreeing with her choice in blue jean shorts.

Actress Jessica Alba strikes a few poses for Elle Korea‘s June issue in some serious couture outfits.
Photographed by Lee Do Kyu, stylist Choi Soon Young did a beautiful job showcasing pieces from Valentino, Thakoon, Marc Jacobs, Haider Ackerman, Alexander McQueen, Balmain, and Burberry Prorsum (check out the rest of the photos after the jump).
