Another week in fantasy basketball land and we’re starting to see some players stepping up their game and establishing themselves (Daniel Gibson, Ronnie Brewer, Francisco Garcia) or RE-establishing their fantasy value (Chris Kaman, Richard Jefferson) – but for how long? We’ll look into this and other things to think about for the upcoming week. But, first let’s look at how many times each team plays next week…

The Fig Cap: Hopefully D-Wade isn’t wearing this suit in Week 3.
Some big injury updates, and a whole lot of movement on our rankings. Lamar Odom is supposed to be back, but the DD team doesn’t put him in their top 20 quite yet. Dwyane Wade is also set to come back, and he barely cracks his position’s ranks. Amare Stoudemire makes a big fall after missing three straight - and possibly more - games.

The Fig Cap: Is It Always Sunny in Phoenix?
Only fantasy sports fans will tell you that they prefer a broken leg over a sprained ankle any day. While a broken leg would likely be considered a more serious injury, at least you know the player is out a finite number of weeks (4-6 weeks in this case) and that he’ll be back good as new once that time has elapsed. With a sprained ankle, nothing is certain and everything is open to interpretation. As a result, the injury report will always say “day-to-day” and said player will usually be the dreaded “game-time decision.”
Handling Game-time Decisions
You might be a great fantasy general manager or owner having stockpiled a wealth of talent in the draft and/or via trade, however, it’s how you coach your squad and the key personnel decisions you make that will determine if you’re top tier or just another guppy.

Wire to Wire aims to be your waiver wire resource for all of your fantasy basketball needs. It will dive into playing time trends, injury replacements, and even an occasional category specialist—all of which can be found on a typical waiver wire within your fantasy league at any given time.
I want to apologize in advance for all of the swingmen listed in this week’s edition of Wire to Wire. If anything, this shows us that we should never overpay for shooting guards and small forwards on draft day, as there is plenty of value on the wire within the first few weeks of the season. Later on, we have to count on injuries and trades, but out of the gate is where we’ll see which roles that players have in their respective systems. With that said, here are this week’s targets for your wholesome waiver wire additions.

It’s still very early in the season, so much so some teams haven’t even played one game yet! However, that doesn’t stop The Fantasy Jump Off from doing its thing and helping you with the 411 for your fantasy basketball team for next week. Man, it feels good to be back. After the last few months of mock drafts, expert league results and preseason play, we finally get to put all of our hard work to use. Dennis has already given you all the primer for the beginning of the season, but what he didn’t dive into too much (thankfully, for job security purposes) were some of the talent that can still be found on waiver wires of all league sizes and formats. That, ladies and gentlemen, is where I come in. From this week on, Wire to Wire will give you the low down on the up-and-comers that can help out your fantasy squad. But enough of the introduction, let’s get into the goods for the premier week of the 2007-08 season. Enjoy.
