Chris Paul
Fig Cap: “Oh man, I’m going to put the sickest move on this guy, I’m about to crap my own shorts!”

Over here at Dropping Dimes, we love us some Chris Paul.  So much so, we sponsor his page on every stat/historical geek’s favorite basketball website, Basketball-Reference.com... ahem, hopefully, we’re every fantasy basketball geek’s favorite blog - thanks for the support by the way!  That’s also something every Hornets player on the other end of a CP3 dime says as well.  Paul has proven that he has all the tools and talent for being the next big thing as far as point guards go (Deron Williams be damned!) and soon enough (when Steve Nash and Jason Kidd finally keel over and retire), CP3 will be PG1.

Chris Bosh
Fig Cap: “Seriously, I’m.  That.  Damn.  Good.”

Chris Bosh is a mystery to me, but I hear through the Canadian grapevine that he’s a pretty good basketball player.  Too bad no one really knows.  I mean, unless you’re Canadian.

Steve NashSarge punked Nash a bit last year by digging up one ugly photo of the two-time MVP. You can relive that blog entry here. Disturbing news broke today that an NBA ref bet on games that he was officiating; allegations of point shaving are sure to arise. The integrity of the league has been threatened, and it would be an utter disaster if more than this official were found to be involved.

While David Stern wades through this fiasco, fantasy ballers can thankfully count on Nash’s production. He might have been ousted by Chris Bosh in our one-on-one tourney, and Bosh is still alive and has at match-up that finishes at the end of this week, but Nash is one of the few sure things in fantasy ball.

Gilbert Getting Jiggy

Fig Cap: Gil Zero Is Like A Super Almond Joy… Sometimes He Feels Like A Nut, Sometimes He Still Does!

Oh man… the stars in the Dropping Dimes universe just seem aligned as such that I write about all the crazies, huh?  Last year, Alvin got to do the honors of writing about HIBACHI!  Check it here.

In any case, Gilbert Arenas is a little nutty.  The boy can obviously ball with the best of them… he just adds some flair and character to his persona with some of the things he does off and on the court.  Regardless, all I know is that the man puts up some pretty damn good numbers that make me do the Chris Rock eye bulging out of his face thing and pop lock Justin Timberlake style… not that I was paying close attention to every detail of JT’s slide step utilizing his big toe to provide the effect of gliding.  I’m just saying.

Anyway… check out the stats the past three years and you’ll see why it’s easy to get excited:

2004-05: 80 G; 40:53 Min; 43.1 FG%; 2.6 3PTM; 81.4 FT%; 4.7 RPG; 5.1 APG; 3.0 TO; 1.7 SPG; 0.3 BPG; 25.5 PPG
2005-06: 80 G; 42:17 Min; 44.7 FG%; 2.5 3PTM; 82.0 FT%; 3.5 RPG; 6.1 APG; 3.7 TO; 2.0 SPG; 0.3 BPG; 29.3 PPG
2006-07: 74 G; 39:47 Min; 41.8 FG%; 2.8 3PTM; 84.4 FT%; 4.6 RPG; 6.0 APG; 3.2 TO; 1.9 SPG; 0.2 BPG; 28.5 PPG

But you're not a fool, are you?For the second season in a row, I’ve landed the fourth pick in the DroppingDimes Mock Draft Blog.  For the second season in a row, I’ll be selecting none other than Kevin Garnett.  Last season, it was Dirk Nowitzki that was ahead of the Big Ticket, and this season it is Kobe Bryant

Granted, Kobe had a knee injury that kept a lot of drafters (present company included) away from him in the top five, but there’s little doubt that he should be taken within the top three this season.  And while the aforementioned Nowitzki is still available, I’ll take one of the most dominant big men in the fantasy realm over the past five seasons.

DescriptionNow, I know DroppingDimes.com is a fantasy hoops blog.  I just can’t help but direct you guys to Brian Windhorst’s blog post today.  For those of you that don’t know Windhorst, he’s one of the best beat writers in the league today - and thankfully, he covers the Cleveland Cavaliers.

He’s so well respected that he’s frequently mentioned in Henry Abbott’s TrueHoop Blog, as well as Dan Steinberg’s Washington Post Blog (DC Sports Bog).  Why should you check out today’s post?  Well, he does a little “digging” if you will, and by “digging,” I mean simple math to show you how LeBron James got screwed out of the First Team All-NBA.

Shawn Marion the Matrix The results are in, and we protected our house! And by “we” I mean Dennis Velasco. Our fearless leader managed to hold on and fend off a late rally from Matt Satten to bring home the title!

That noise you hear outside the window is Dennis organizing his own victory parade…

Thank You, Henry Abbott

If you’re a fan of this web site, you’re likely a stat geek like the rest of us.  While the fantasy season is over for the majority of us, we owe a debt of gratitude to Henry Abbott over at TrueHoop (recently acquired by ESPN) who has put together six of the biggest Stat Heads out there (seven, if you count his mother).

David Berry (U Cal), John Hollinger (ESPN),Jeff Ma (ProTrade), and Justin Kubatko (Basketball-Reference) are only a few of them.

Click here for all of the information, including bios of all the players involved.

I know I’ll be heading there for each round as these guys are amazing.  Plus, they all pick the Cavaliers in either four or five games!  What!?  I’m biased, so what!

Enjoy, fellas…

Kobe BryantIt’s over.  Go ahead and breathe that sigh of relief if you won on the final week of the season - THE championship or the consolation title - a win is a win.  For those of you that lost, scream but know that the constant waves of anxiety are now over.  Fortunately, I came out on the winning end of the PFS Experts League, beating SI.com Fantasy Sports Editor, James Quintong.  Sorry, JQ, but someone had to win and I certainly don’t mind it being myself.  I also won the DroppingDimes.com Roto Experts League, barely beating PFS and SI.com’s Matt Satten… by half a point!  That’s 0.5!!!  But enough about me.

Let’s get to the stats and those players that excelled in them (Blue Chippers), gave more production in the various categories relative to where they were drafted (Value Players), and those players that disappointed (Duds) this past season.  I’ll review the big three categories a little more heavily since they’re the main categories for a reason.  Afterwards, I’ll do a quick hit type of deal with treys, steals, and blocks, looking mostly at the positive to end on a happy note.
