Quincy Jones Sues Michael Jackson Estate

Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Music, Legal Issues,

Michael Jackson and Quincy JonesQuincy Jones is suing Michael Jackson's estate.

The music producer and close friend of the late King of Pop - who produced some of his biggest hits including "Thriller" and "Billie Jean" - is seeking $10 million from the estate and record label Sony Music Entertainment, claiming that they re-edited Michael's hit songs in order to avoid paying him royalties and production costs.

The 80-year-old music expert believes tracks he produced for the singer have been improperly edited and featured in 2009 musical documentary This Is It and a pair of Cirque du Soleil stage shows which are based on Michael's music. Quincy feels he should have received a producer credit on the 2009 film, which chronicled Michael's preparation for his stage return at The O2 in London prior to his untimely death in June 2009, and he is seeking an investigation into the estate's accounting to determine how much he is owed from the profits of the film and theater productions.

Someone Else Sues Michael Jackson

Julien's Auction House Michael Jackson collection has even more legal trouble dead than alive - and that’s really saying something.

It all began when Julien’s Auction House put around 170 items up on the block, a Michael Jackson collection that was bid upon by one Richard Lapointe. The auction, however, was canceled. As a result, Lapointe is suing the Jackson estate and the auction house.

The suit contends that Lapointe was the only bidder on 82 items in the collection, and further mentions that he might have been the highest bidder on 88 more items. Since Julien’s sent confirmation of Lapointe’s bid on these items, he thinks he’s entitled to some money.

Michael Jackson’s Financial Assets Made Public

Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: Music, Child Stars,

Michael Jackson has revealed just how much Michael Jackson, deceased, was worth at the time of his death. According to financial records, the King of Pop earned more than $1.3 billion in his long musical career - but the liquid assets he had at the time of his demise add up only to about .05% of this huge amount.

Jackson had about $668,215 in cash when he died earlier this year, though he does have additional assets totaling millions of dollars. His real estate is valued around $73,475,000, an amount based on the worth of Jackson’s two homes (Neverland and Encino Home). Professional equipment, media archival materials, his publishing trust and other personal property including antiques and automobiles brings the total up by approximately $126,000,000.

Even though is now dearly departed, his estate will continue to earn money perhaps into perpetuity, which means the singer’s future assets are practically limitless.

Michael Jackson’s Estate Will Negate Singer’s Debt

NeverlandThough died while still owing about $400 million in debt, court documents suggest the remainder of his estate will substantially cover this deficit. According to attorney John Branca and music executive John McClain, they are working on deals that will “generate tens of millions.”

These two have arranged for allowances to be distributed to Paris, Prince and Blanket, Michael Jackson’s three children, along with Katherine Jackson. The LA court has decided, however, to wait until the August 3 hearing (which will determine guardianship of the children) before dispensing these funds.

Michael’s Kids: Does the Jackson Family Even Have Parental Rights?

Michael JacksonFor years, speculation and suspicion have surrounded ’s two oldest children (Michael Joseph and Paris-Michael). Debbie Rowe, Jackson’s wife at the time, delivered the children after becoming impregnated via IVF. She has recently stepped forward to say she is, in fact, their biological mother - though she released custody and claim to these kids years ago in favor of pop Michael.

Yet, the question remains. If Debbie Rowe is the mother, who is the biological father? It seems unlikely, to say the least, that MJ himself could be the daddy (genetically speaking). The media has often speculated that Jackson’s DNA was not used to create the kids.

So…whose was?

Legalities and Mystery Shrouds Michael Jackson’s estate

At the height of his career in the late 80s, when he was doing commercials and worldwide tours for huge audiences, was truly the King of Pop. It was reported that the singer was worth around $2 billion US - not a bad little bit of change.

In the wake of Jackson’s death, however, it’s much harder to pin down a figure. As of right now, the size of Jackson’s estate remains largely unknown. It was reported recently that the singer still had around $350,000, while other sources estimated Jackson at closer to $800 million. Some reports even suggest that Jackson was actually in debt - one news organization says the amount could reach up to $500 million.

Who will inherit the burden or largesse, such as the case may be? This, too, remains a mystery. Early reports and court documents filed by parents Katherine and Joe Jackson suggested that Michael died intestate (without a will), but a lawyer has stepped forward to refute these claims.
