George ClooneyGeorge Clooney has compared himself to Elizabeth Taylor.

The Ides of March actor was arrested for civil disobedience in Washington last week alongside his journalist father Nick and other protesters after a demonstration outside the Sudanese Embassy and George says he learned from an early age that celebrities are more newsworthy than humanitarian crises.

"I saw my father in the 1970s doing really good stories and then getting bumped because there was a Liz Taylor story that was going to be out. And the story that he did that had real some social value was going to get bumped. I said to my dad, 'Remember how you used to get all your stories bumped by Liz Taylor or something happened in Hollywood?' And he said, 'Yes.' I said, 'Well, let's go to Darfur. And you be the newsman and I'll be Liz Taylor and let's get it on the air.' And he said, 'OK,'" he told Fox News on Sunday.

George is trying to draw attention to the accusation that Sudan's president, Omar al-Bashir, is provoking a humanitarian crisis and blocking food and aid from entering the Nuba Mountains from South Sudan and admitted he had some close calls when he travelled to the country to film the atrocities.

Quote of the Day: Johnny Depp on Costar Angelina Jolie

Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Movies,

Angelina Jolie and Liz Taylor

“You don’t know what [] might be like—if she has any sense of humor at all. I was so pleased to find that she is incredibly normal, and has a wonderfully kind of dark, perverse sense of humor. ... “I’ve had the honor and the pleasure and gift of having known Elizabeth Taylor for a number of years. You know, you sit down with her, she slings hash, she sits there and cusses like a sailor, and she’s hilarious. Angie’s got the same kind of thing, you know, the same approach.”

-Johnny Depp comparing his Tourist costar, Angelina Jolie, to the screen legend. (On a side note: Jolie may star as Cleopatra -- a role Taylor once played -- in an possible James Cameron film.)

“To my horror, she did, and even worse, got it. It all began with drink. I’d been having a drunken dinner with my father the night before, and I said, ‘We ought to go see my brother Jamie. You know, the Concorde’s amazing,’” he told the Daily Mail. “‘And he said, ‘I hear it is.’ So I bought him a Concorde ticket and we went. We had lunch, drank a lot of beer. And I was thinking about some stuff in the Sotheby’s auction and I saw the Liz Taylor. I slightly regret selling it now, even though it made me rich.”

The pop art painting was one of several portraits Warhol created at the height of his fame and creative output in the 60s.
