Jonas and Swift: Superstars Turned Super Childish

Hey, they actually are kids. At times I’ve wondered if some Disney celebs aren’t actually Stepford Stars - they look like teens, but they’re really bionic, singing, money-making robots. In some ways, it’s satisfying when they slip up. This at least proves that, while they may be beautiful and rich and talented, at least they’re still human. At the same time, the back-and-forth press games between Joe Jonas and Taylor Swift are starting to get a little - okay, a lot - tedious.
Swift seemed to take the high road regarding the Jonas bro split, saying “He’s not in my life anymore, and I have absolutely nothing to say about or to him” to the New York Times. That was on the ninth (Sunday), and that was the right thing to say.
But then news broke that Joe Jonas, one-third of the pop sensation The Jonas Brothers, was seeing music video hottie Camilla Belle

On Tuesday, Swift appeared on the Ellen DeGeneres show. It was during this appearance that Taylor let it slip Jonas ended their liaison in a call that was “like 27 seconds” long, adding “that’s got to be a record.”
So then on Wednesday, when Taylor Swift was making the rounds at the CMA Awards, she stopped to have a word with Us magazine. On the Jonas-Belle subject, Taylor stated “they’ve been together since we broke up. That’s why we broke up - because he met her.”
Jonas fired back on the Brothers’ MySpace page, saying “I never cheated on a girlfriend,” and “maybe the heart moved on.” He added that “a phone call can be pretty short when someone else ends the call.” Did you give her that “heart moved on” business? Because I think that explains the knee-jerk disconnect-the-call response.
Anyway, what was just another teen breakup we were all going to stop covering next week (when another Jonas brother does something new on the romantic front) has now deteriorated into a childish back-and-forth the media is sure to splash all over the place.
A young, wildly successful, rich teenager broke up with his equally young, incredibly lovely girlfriend for a different gorgeous girl. Now they’re both using the media against each other. Imagine high school, but the credit cards don’t belong to your parents and instead of bad-mouthing your ex guy to your friend Shelley you’re telling the editor of Seventeen.
In related news, the much older (and wiser?) William Shatner is still quite publicly feuding with longtime co-star George Takei. Maybe the Swift-Jonas antics really have nothing to do with age after all?
