2009 Screen Actors Guild Award Nominations (TV)

Mad Men

Even though SAG members are currently debating whether to strike, today’s award nominations gave them all a brief distraction. If the upcoming Oscars telecast doesn’t go on as planned, next month’s Screen Actors Guild Awards (scheduled for January 25th on TNT and TBS) could be the last time actors have a reason to celebrate.

Here are some of the noteworthy mentions from this year’s list of television nominees:

  • 30 Rock, Boston Legal, The Closer, John Adams and Mad Men all scored three noms each.
  • Dexter is up for its first win in the Outstanding Drama Series Ensemble category.
  • Desperate Housewives - a nominee for Best Ensemble - received no individual honors.
  • Debra Messing (The Starter Wife), Kevin Connolly (Entourage), January Jones (Mad Men), Anna Paquin (True Blood) and Neil Patrick Harris (How I Met Your Mother) all received Golden Globe nominations, but no SAG noms.

Jennifer Aniston to Return to TV…As a Regular?

Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: Comedy, Prime Time, NBC, Rumors,

Jennifer Aniston bares more than her bod in the new issue of GQ. The actress talks about her relationship with John Mayer, her current friendship with ex-hubby Brad Pitt and even her future career plans.

With her cover shot, Aniston easily puts to rest any lingering rumors that she might be carrying Mayer’s child - smooth abs are testament enough to her state. Aniston also denies the rumors in her interview, where she jokes about going to the Hamptons with Brad and Angie. Yes, it’s just a joke - her and the ex exchange polite phone calls and congratulations; they don’t share vacations.

But she did offer up a tantalizing hint that she may soon be back on the small screen - as a regular. Jennifer spoke highly of Tina Fey’s , saying “that to me, is an ideal job: great cast, New York City.” When asked directly about her future involvement with the show, Aniston played her cards close to vest. “We’ll see what I say if they come back and ask me - I wouldn’t say yes, I wouldn’t say no.”

So, it’s a definite maybe.

SNL Brings On Two New Females

Abby ElliottMichaela Watkins

Although recently lost Amy Poehler to motherhood and Tina Fey (once again) to 30 Rock, the show will soon go back to being unevenly staffed. This weekend, Lorne Michaels will introduce two new women to the NBC program. These casting additions will bring the female portion of the crew up to four. (If you count Seth Meyers, the male half currently stands at nine.)

Starting November 15, Abby Elliott (above left) and Michaela Watkins (above right) will become the latest Not Ready for Prime-Time Players. Elliott - who has performed with the Upright Citizens Brigade (the group co-founded by Poehler) - is also the daughter of a former SNL alum (comedian Chris Elliott). Meanwhile Watkins, who has appeared on several episodes of , comes with several ties of her own. She was once a member of The Groundlings, a comedy troupe that lists Will Ferrell and Kristen Wiig amongst its former participants.

Paul Rudd and Beyonce are the featured guests on this Saturday’s show.

Will Mad Men’s Jon Hamm Appear on 30 Rock?

Jon Hamm on Mad Men

Of all the cameos announced recently for (Jennifer Aniston, Oprah, Salma Hayek), I find this piece of news to be the most exciting.

Days after his hilarious performance on Saturday Night Live, it’s being reported that Jon Hamm may be loosening up his tie for the NBC comedy. According to Entertainment Weekly, the star might set aside the suit to play Liz Lemon’s neighbor…and potential love interest.

Video of John McCain’s Saturday Night Live Sketches

Last night, - with the help of his wife - hit Saturday Night Live and left no comedic stone unturned.

In the senator’s first sketch, he and gave their version of the Barack Obama infomercial. Acknowledging they did not have the Democratic dollars, McCain and “Palin” aired their spot on QVC. During their promo, they addressed the cost of Sarah’s expensive wardrobe and the caliber of their Hollywood supporters (Jon Voight, Heidi Montag). The Alaska governor also momentarily went rogue and talked about her 2012 run.

In the Republican nominee’s second sketch (which can be seen after the jump), he brought up the most overused word of 2008: Maverick.

Will Ferrell Joins Tina Fey on Saturday Night Live

What’s better than a Tina Fey cameo on ? A Palin sketch that also includes Will Ferrell.

On tonight’s special Thursday broadcast, the popular SNL alum made a surprise return to play the current POTUS. Not so coincidentally, Will is also prepping to bring his version of Bush to Broadway next year.

Was Ferrell’s visit really a shameless promotion for You’re Welcome America. A Final Night With George W. Bush? Who cares?

SNL Alum Not Amused By Sarah Palin

After tons of hype and media attention, vice presidential candidate finally made an appearance (for real) on SNL. I would have rather just watched Tina Fey (who at least makes the wanna-be veep seem charming)…and apparently I’m not alone in that sentiment.

“Quite frankly, it’s a big mistake to let her go on,” said former regular and Weekend Update anchor Chevy Chase. “Apparently, she [Sarah Palin] cannot improvise herself out of a paper bag!” Or drooping polls.
