  • How I Met Your Mother (CBS, 8pm):  “Marshall finds a letter he wrote when he was young, and it has a dramatic effect on him.” Up until then, he had completely forgotten all about Sarah Marshall.
  • Cake Boss (TLC, 9pm):  “The crew makes a holiday-themed cake for a drag queen.” The holiday? Cher’s birthday.
  • Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives (Food, 10pm):  “Guy Fieri visits North Pole, Alaska, for a taste of local Christmas favorites, including holiday ham with wild Alaskan cranberries; Reindeer hoagies; and “Santa” burgers.” For this trip, Fieri will be joined by a special guest: The Grinch.

  • Gossip Girl (CW, 9pm):  “Elsewhere, Dan is rattled when he watches one of Olivia’s on-screen sex scenes.” No one wants to think about Lizzie Maguire having sex.

  • Trauma (NBC, 9pm):  “Rabbit has a surprising reaction during a turbulent flight.” Rabbit realized the whole bouncing thing was overrated.
  • Two and a Half Men (CBS, 9pm):  “When Alan and Charlie publicly humiliate Jake, he says he no longer wants to live with them.” At this point, he figures he can support himself off his royalty checks.

  • Sherri (Lifetime, 7pm):  Series premiere. “In the opener, Sherri () turns to her coworkers for support after learning her ex’s 20-year-old girlfriend is pregnant.” She receives emotional support from both the ladies at her table and the viewers behind the camera.
  • Rita Rocks (Lifetime, 7:30pm):  Season premiere. “Rita takes Hallie to the doctor to discuss birth-control options. But Rita is in for a shock when she discovers she’s pregnant.” There’s nothing like a pregnancy to deter someone from sex.
  • CSI: Miami (CBS, 10pm):  “An investigation into the mysterious deaths of three volleyball players who dropped dead on the court.” The official autopsy reported listed “death by spike.”

Time Warner Cable to test TV Everywhere in select markets

time warner cableTime Warner Cable is about to put yet another nail in the coffin of office productivity.  The company plans to test delivery of cable TV programs on the Internet.  How ever will the average cubicle dweller cram that, , and relentless Facebook updates into the average work day?

Time Warner calls it’s prototype TV Everywhere.  The initial test will involve 5,000 customers in selected markets around the country. The company has not yet said which markets will be involved. CBS, (a.k.a. Sci Fi Channel), TNT, TBS, AMC, and BBC America, HBO, WE tv, and the Discovery Channel are among the many networks committed to participating in this initial test of TV Everywhere.

Casting Corner: Caprica, Supernatural and More

Here’s a quick look at some of the casting announcements made recently:

 

Caprica: With all this talk about vampires, it’s nice to see James Marsters back in the fold. The Buffy vet will later be seen in a few episodes of the new Syfy series. Marsters has been cast as Barnabus Greeley, a “dangerous terrorist leader.” The program will unfold on January 22.

MONDAY (8/3)
  • The Closer (TNT, 9pm):  “Brenda reopens a murder case when it’s surmised that a father may have offered a false confession to cover for his schizophrenic son. Sosie Bacon (daughter of and Kyra Sedgwick) guest stars.” Thanks to the Bernie Madoff scam, the whole Bacon family is now being put to work.
  • Jon & Kate Plus 8 (TLC, 9pm):  “Jon stays home to oversee kitchen renovations while Kate and the kids head to the beach as the series returns with its first all-new episode after a five-week hiatus spurred by a marital breakup.” The show will be followed by a new series: Jon Plus His 8 Dates.
  • Making His Band (MTV, 10pm):  “The finalists move into their new pad and tensions arise between the trained musicians and those who were self-taught.” There are some who are born talented, there are some who are taught. Then there are those who buy record companies and call themselves singers.
  • Weeds (Showtime, 10pm):  “Coworkers Celia and Dean develop a new marketing scheme after discovering they have a surplus of product.” Who knew one had to create a need for weed?

  • The Closer (TNT, 9pm):  “Numerous mysteries spin around a high-profile shoot-out that left two cops and a teen boy dead. Enter Force Investigation Division bigwig Sharon Raydor (), whose merciless snooping upends Brenda’s investigation.” Brenda better watch out—this one stands with fist!
  • Dating in the Dark (ABC, 10pm):  Series premiere. “In the opener of a dating reality show in which contestants meet and get acquainted in a completely dark room, the contestants are given an article of clothing belonging to one of their dates.” Thankfully, Ed Hardy t-shirts can’t be seen with the lights off.
  • Obsessed (A&E, 10pm):  “A woman with a fear of the weight of objects and the harm they could cause.” This is often referred to as the “I Hate Working Out Syndrome.”
