Charles Gibson and Diane Sawyer

UPDATE: It’s now being reported that Cuomo may be the new co-host of 20/20. Juju Chang would then replace Chris on GMA.

Within the next few weeks, viewers will see changes on ABC’s midseason schedule and in their news department.

It was just announced today that Diane Sawyer will officially be leaving Good Morning America at the end of the week. Diane’s exit will give her just over a week to transition to her new post at World News Tonight. She will begin on Dec. 21, just three days after Charles Gibson signs off from that chair.

Although it’s been widely rumored that George Stephanopoulos will become the new GMA anchor, it’s unknown whether ABC’s chief Washington correspondent and This Week host will accept the offer. Meanwhile, Chris Cuomo has denied that he will be leaving the network if he doesn’t receive the promotion.

VIDEO: Rihanna Talks About Chris Brown to Diane Sawyer

Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: ABC, Gossip, Video,

Keep in mind—this clip is only a portion of what we will hear say come Friday night.

On this morning’s Good Morning America, Diane Sawyer previewed the 21-year-old’s first television interview about her violent relationship with Chris Brown. In this 5-minute clip, the singer admits she was embarrassed about allowing herself to fall in love with that type of person.

“So far in love. So unconditional that I went back. It’s humiliating to say this happened. To accept that? It’s a traumatizing experience,” she said.

Charles Gibson Leaving World News Tonight

Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: News,

Charles Gibson and Diane Sawyer

Just over three years after taking over the desk at World News Tonight, anchor has decided to retire from full-time employment. The official announcement came today after several weeks of discussions with ABC News President David Westin.

Charles, who has been with the network for over three decades, found himself in our homes every night in May 2006 following Peter Jennings’ death, Bob Woodruff’s injury and Elizabeth Vargas’ pregnancy. The unexpected post delayed what would have originally been a 2007 leave.

Prior to his evening news gig, Gibson had worked on both and Primetime Thursday.

This Week on TV (4/7-4/13)

The Office

(You can view TV Envy’s Post-Strike Television Schedule here.)

MONDAY (4/7)
  • Today (NBC, 10am):  Kathie Lee Gifford returns to morning TV this week.  And I thought the New Kids were getting old.
  • Samantha Who? (ABC, 9:30pm):  New episode.  “Samantha has to move back into the apartment when she learns that she could be evicted for subletting it to Todd.”  The girlfriend you hate gets amnesia and you get to keep her apartment.  Todd has seriously been getting off easy so far.
  • The Bachelor (ABC, 10pm):  “It’s an afternoon of tennis and tea for six of the ladies.”  I’ve seen what an afternoon of women’s tennis can look like on The Real Housewives of NYC.  This won’t end pretty.
  • Medium (NBC, 10pm):  “Rosanna Arquette stars as an older seductress linked to the brutal murders of two younger men.”  Maybe it’s best her relationship with Paul McCartney fizzled out.

Nicole Richie To Do Televised Interview

Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: ABC, Gossip, News,

Nicole Richie Hoping to distract us from that other troubled star, has finally agreed to do a sit-down interview with ABC’s Diane Sawyer.

Diane will of course be speaking to the waif about her August 16th court appearance.  (Nicole, 25, is scheduled to face a charge).  It is also expected that Nicole will finally address the rumors of her pregnancy.  My question is:  Did she get knocked up on purpose thinking this will keep her from the slammer?

The segments will air next week on Good Morning America (Aug. 2nd, 3rd) and 20/20 (Aug. 3rd).

Mel Gibson Calls DUI Arrest ‘A Blessing’

Posted by Wendy Michaels Categories: Daytime, Talk Shows, ABC, News,

Mel Gibson Apparently it was the wake-up call that Mel Gibson needed to get sober. Too bad it was also a huge image-breaker and public humiliation. I’m speaking, of course, about his DUI arrest in July, complete with anti-Semitic comments. He’s finally come forward in an interview with Diane Sawyer on Good Morning America to talk about the incident and the subsequent fallout. In the first part of the interview, which aired this morning, Gibson called his arrest “a blessing,” saying that he needed “public humiliation on a global scale” to get sober. Commenting on the incident and his alcoholism, Gibson said, “Sometimes you need a cold bucket of water in the face to sort of snap to, because you’re dealing with a sort of malady of the soul, an obsession of the mind and a physical allergy.” Jewish leaders, addiction experts and PR gurus believe that he still has a way to go on rebuilding his reputation, with many saying that he is hiding behind alcoholism and not taking full credit for the incident.

The second part of the interview will air on Friday morning on Good Morning America.
