American Idol: Season Seven Winner Announced
Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: Music, Prime Time, Reality, FOX, American Idol, Editorial,
The seventh season of American Idol culminated last night in a spectacular, two-hour grand finale event. The fans, the fanfare, the Davids - it was a truly great show.
The men of the hours, Davids Archuleta and Cook, appeared in white for the opening sequence. Ryan Seacrest announced that the winner of the contest secured 56% of the vote. More than 96 million votes were logged, a record-breaking number, but of course voters had four hours after Tuesday’s performance (instead of the usual two) to make their wishes known.

Endearingly dizty country gal Kellie Pickler cleaned up at the CMT Music Awards last night, success the blonde attributed directly to her American Idol experiences.
“Thank you American Idol, you are the rocket that launched my career,” Pickler told the Associated Press. The songstress accepted her awards via satellite, as she had a concert scheduled in Arizona.

In the Mold: What Does it Take to Win American Idol?

Kelly Clarkson. Fantasia Barrino. Taylor Hicks. Carrie Underwood. Ruben Studdard. Jordin Sparks. Put them together and it’s hard to find one common element - other than the fact that they can all sing. But here’s the thing - many of the contestants on American Idol can carry a tune. Winning the show takes a whole lot more than sensational singing. What does it take to win American Idol?
The hot button issue for this year’s crew of competitors is sexual orientation. The Internet community is alive with comments, videos, and hooplah regarding the sexual preference (real or imagined) of Season Seven’s best and brightest singing talents. As far as fans know, a homosexual has never won American Idol. Some say that one will never win on the show.

American Idol: Top 12 Revealed
Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: Music, Prime Time, Reality, FOX, American Idol, Editorial,
American Idol’s Top 12 is a big milestone for the show. It marks the beginning of Ford commercials, brings contestants one step closer to the summer-long Idol tour, and usually symbolizes the cutting away of dead wood. But I’ll go ahead and say it - I’m not pleased with the way it all went down. Let’s re-cap.
The night kicked off with a fantastic performance from Season 6 runner-up Blake Lewis, who saucily performed “How Many Words.” He shared a few comments with host Ryan Seacrest before he quickly departed, so that everyone could turn their attentions to twelve empty chairs lined up on the stage.

Idol Gives Back Celebrity Guests Announced
Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: Music, Prime Time, Reality, FOX, American Idol, Editorial,
American Idol will continue it’s self-serving humanitarian efforts with another star-studded Idol Gives Back event this year. I gotta tell you, I watched every minute of the charitable broadcast last year and the only thing I was impressed with was Jack Black. During the Thursday elimination show, Ryan Seacrest started to rattle off the big names which will be associated with the big event this year.
As the crowd screamed and Seacrest cheekily grinned, he spit out attention-grabbing names like Brad Pitt, Miley Cyrus, Reese Witherspoon, Mariah Carey, Carrie Underwood and Chris Daughtry. He slipped Snoop Dogg in there, too, and that’s when I started screaming. Love the Dogg. Love him. Now, I have a reason to watch the event. Thanks, Snoop.
Believe me, the list of names will only get longer and longer as the Idol Gives Back date of April 9 draws near. They’ll over-promote it the point that we’ll all get sick, and then they’ll do the show and suck a good two hours of TV time out of it. It sounds tedious, I know…but don’t forget, Snoop will be there. He brings a certain cool cachet Idol couldn’t hope to achieve otherwise. Way to luck out, FOX.

The American Music Award Nominations
Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: Award Shows, Music, Prime Time, Reality, ABC, FOX, American Idol, News,
The American Music Awards heaped honors this week awarding Beyonce, Justin Timberlake, Linkin Park and Daughtry (led by American Idol contestant Chris Daughtry) with three nominations each. Idol winner Carrie Underwood nabbed two nominations, showing that FOX can, at least, find talent. Daughtry will also be a performer, along with Celine Dion, Fergie and Rihanna. Jimmy Kimmel is set to host the event, which will air on ABC November 18.
Nominees for the AMAs are initially chosen based upon record sales, but this year marks a first for the award show: members of the public will be able to vote for nominees online.

The 2007 MTV Video Music Awards
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Award Shows, Music, Prime Time, Cable, MTV, Cable/Satellite,
Before this evening’s festivities begin, the producers of the 2007 MTV Video Music Awards should really thank the scandal-plagued artists who’ve unintentionally thrown publicity their way. Tonight, we’ll be thinking about those performers who’ve canceled because they need to be in rehab (Amy Winehouse) and closely watching those who should probably go back (Britney Spears).
We’d been warning you for weeks that this would be a one-time only telecast, but in case you forgot—we hope this helps. And for those who live on the West Coast (like me), you can play along and read our coverage as if it were in real-time:

Constantine’s Album Release
Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: Music, Prime Time, Reality, FOX, American Idol, Talent, Gossip,
Though many people are already looking forward to a new season of American Idol, some may still remember the contestants from season four. Carrie Underwood, country diva, walked away with the Idol crown…but that doesn’t mean fourth-place finisher Constantine Maroulis isn’t still making music. His sultry eyes and classic croon won over female fans years ago, and his good looks won him a spot on CBS’s The Bold and the Beautiful. But, can he win over music fans? Maroulis has released a self-titled debut album, twelve pop-rock songs that showcase his singing range. So far, reviews aren’t all that favorable. There is no question Constantine can sing – he made it past Simon Cowell, right? – but a good album is often about more than singing. The album’s final track, Midnight Radio, includes shout-outs to famed singers like Yoko Ono, Tina Turner…and himself.
