Ashley JensenAshley Jensen, who can be seen on both Ugly Betty and Extras, has tied the knot with her longtime boyfriend, Terence Beesley. The two eloped on January 22nd in a forest in Big Sur, California. Their dog, Barney, served as ring bearer. Jensen plays seamstress Christine on Ugly Betty and can also be seen as Maggie Jacobs, opposite Ricky Gervais on the HBO comedy Extras. I enjoyed her so much on the first season of Extras, and this season hasn’t disappointed yet either. She can really hold her own against Gervais, which is no small feat. I was thrilled to see her on Ugly Betty as well, although she doesn’t get a lot of screen time. Jensen commented to People magazine about the nuptials, saying it was a “beautiful, beautiful magical wedding…It was brilliant.”

CBS Greenlights Another Year of Survivor

Posted by Wendy Michaels Categories: Prime Time, Reality, CBS, Survivor, Renewals,

Survivor logo CBS announced that Survivor will go on at least for another year. And why not? The reality show competition, where contestants use their survival instincts for a shot at a million dollars is a ratings winner. With an upcoming 14th season airing soon, Survivor still manages to bring it. The additional year will have two more back-to-back seasons in store, marking seasons 15 and 16. Survivor: Cook Islands, the latest season to air, did well with 15.75 million viewers. That’s big business considering the popularity of their competitor, the freshman hit Ugly Betty. There has been no announcement yet about what the next two seasons will have in store or where they will be located. You can be certain there will be some new twists up Mark Burnett’s sleeve though, I’m sure. “Survivor: Fiji” starts on February 8.

Katharine McPhee to Guest on Ugly Betty

Katharine McPhee Being runner-up ain’t too shabby for last season’s American Idol second place winner, Katharine McPhee. The singer will be playing herself in an upcoming guest spot on the hit show Ugly Betty. Need I remind you that Ugly Betty is a fantastic show—I hope if you weren’t a fan before, that you caught the recent marathon of it and are now hooked. McPhee will appear as a celebrity guest in the episode titled “I’m Coming Out.” The episode, which airs on February 1st at 8 p.m. will have McPhee appearing at the Mode Fashion Week runway show.

In other Katharine McPhee news, her debut album will be hitting the shelves on January 30th, so the timing with her appearance on Ugly Betty seems right on the mark. The first single, titled “Over It,” will undoubtedly be in heavy rotation on radio stations soon enough.

Ring in the New Year With Ugly Betty

America Ferrera ABC Family will be running a marathon of Ugly Betty on New Year’s Eve, kicking off the “Be Ugly in ‘07” campaign. ABC’s campaign asks Americans to rise to the challenge to “be real, be smart, be passionate and be true to yourself” like Betty’s character. Good luck with that.

Aside from the campaign, the marathon is excellent news for those who may have missed this little gem of a series. This is a great way to get caught up on all things Betty, the eager little assistant at glam fashion magazine Mode. The marathon begins at 9:00 A.M. and continues for eleven hours. The whole shebang ends at 8:00, so you can get up and stretch your legs a bit before the big New Year’s countdown begins. Happy viewing!

Rebecca Romijn Joins Ugly Betty

Posted by Wendy Michaels Categories: Comedy, Drama, Prime Time, ABC,

Rebecca RomijnSeems Ugly Betty is recruiting more beautiful people. The latest, no doubt to fill the void that Salma Hayek will leave when her story’s up, is Rebecca Romijn. She will take on the role of the mystery woman who is working with Wilhelmina (Vanessa Williams) to take over Mode magazine. So far, we’ve only seen this mysterious chick wrapped in bandages—who knew that underneath it all was Rebecca Romijn? That unfortunately means curtains for the woman who has been playing the character thus far, Elizabeth Penn Payne.

Romijn is well known as a model, but has also made her mark in TV and film roles, including the X-Men series, Just Shoot Me, and Pepper Dennis

ABC’s Big Day Back on the Schedule

Posted by Wendy Michaels Categories: Comedy, Prime Time, ABC,

Big DayFinally, the ABC comedy Big Day—about a couple’s big wedding day—will be airing. The show was set to appear with the other new fall shows, but got the big bump when Ugly Betty took its time slot on Thursday evening. With all the buzz around Betty, Big Day had to take the back burner until ABC could figure out when to air it. Luckily for the show, it will be making it to the airwaves and not put on permanent hiatus.

Big Day stars Marla Sokoloff and Josh Cooke as the soon-to-be-newlyweds. The show’s big event plays out over the entire season, so every episode is a part of the “big day.” Rounding out the show are a cast of kooky relatives and friends, complete with plenty of physical comedy to really bring on the funny. Among the cast is Wendie Malick, playing Sokoloff’s character’s mom. Big Day premieres on November 28th at 9:00 PM.

Salma Hayek Brings Her Beauty to Ugly Betty

Posted by Wendy Michaels Categories: Comedy, Drama, Prime Time, ABC, Ratings,

Salma HayekIt was only a matter of time, I suppose, before Salma Hayek would step front and center on the show she executive produces, Ugly Betty. Until now, she’s had some fleeting moments on the show in a background soap opera. Her role will encompass multiple episodes, according to an ABC announcement today. Look for Hayek in her first guest star gig on the November 2nd episode—she will appear on three more episodes during November. Hayek will play Sofia Reyes, “a newcomer to the Mode scene who will leave a lasting impression on Daniel Meade (Eric Mabius) and Betty Suarez (America Ferrera).” This announcement comes on the heels of the news that ABC ordered a full season of the popular freshman show. It’s not too late to jump on the bandwagon—this is a fun show, and as I reported earlier, America Ferrera brings so much heart to the Betty character.

Watch Out Ugly Betty, Prada is in the Works

Posted by Wendy Michaels Categories: Comedy, Prime Time, ABC, FOX, Ratings,

The Devil Wears PradaIf it works for Betty, why not give Prada a try? Fox is planning to develop The Devil Wears Prada into a half hour sitcom. The Devil Wears Prada was recently a hit movie starring Meryl Streep, based on the bestselling book of the same name. Given Ugly Betty‘s success, Prada has a good chance of making it. While the stories are not exactly the same, there are parallels between the two. Namely, the non-fashion-sensible woman thrown into a world of self-absorbed fashionistas at a magazine. Beyond that, the stories have few other similarities. Fox TV Studios acquired the TV rights, with Robin Schiff (Romy and Michelle’s High School Reunion) on board as writer and executive producer of the single-camera comedy. Fox TV Studios president, Angela Shapiro-Mathes will include elements of the hit movie, but is “not looking to directly translate the movie into a TV show.” Hey, if there’s room for two shows about a behind-the-scenes-look at a fictional sketch comedy show, then there should be room for two shows about the world of a fashion magazine.
