Quote of the Day: Stephen King Watches ‘Revenge’ Over ‘Mad Men’

Stephen King

"Justified, Bates Motel, The Walking Dead. The best show of the year is The Americans. I don't watch Mad Men. I think it’s basically soap opera, and if I want soap opera, I watch Revenge. That show is crazy, but they have great clothes."

- Novelist Stephen King reveals what he's watching (and what he prefers not to watch) on television these days.

January Jones: ‘Mad Men’ Was Tough When Pregnant

Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Drama, Cable, Features,

January Jones as Betty Draper

January Jones found filming Mad Men tough when she was pregnant. The 35-year-old actress - who is mother to 18-month-old Xander, but refuses to name the father - had her baby bump disguised in a storyline which saw her character, Betty Francis, put on weight because she was unhappy, and the beauty says each day's shooting was hard.

"When we started filming, I was quite pregnant and had to come into work at 3am each day for six or seven hours of prosthetic make-up," she explained. January added she was "afraid" of the response to her changing appearance, but found the reaction by fans was even better than she imagined: "I was very afraid of how that first episode would look when it aired, but I loved the audience response to her. When she's bigger, viewers are more sympathetic to her."

Mad Men

Folks in the legal department at Lionsgate Entertainment have their hands full with a new lawsuit against Mad Men.

Gita Hall May, who modeled in the 1950s and 1960s, filed a lawsuit in Los Angeles yesterday against the production company for using an image of her photographed by Richard Avedon for Revlon without her permission. In the suit, she claims that she only released consent for use of the photo to Revlon back in the early 1960s, and did not agree “to allow, forty years later, her image to be cropped from the photo, in secret, and inserted as a key element in the title sequence of a cable television series, without her consent and for commercial purposes."

Christina Hendricks: ‘I Hate to Think of Mad Men End’

Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Drama, Prime Time, Cable, Gossip,

Christina HendricksChristina Hendricks "hates" to think about Mad Men ending. The flame-haired actress - who plays Joan Holloway in the 60s-set TV show, which was recently renewed for a sixth season - claims the program has "completely changed" her career and she doubts she will ever find a job she loves as much.

"It's completely changed my career. Instead of people wondering who you are, you walk in and they say, 'I love your show.' It's a nice way to start an audition. I hate to think of it ever finishing. I have concerns about finding something I'm going to fall in love with as much."

However, Christina - who is married to actor Geoffrey Arend - is looking forward to other projects and spending some time with her husband: "I've got a couple of things lined up for the next break, and I hope to enjoy my home and husband."

Christina, 37, was "smitten" with Geoffrey when she first met him because of his sense of humor. "It just became very obvious to me, I was smitten. He makes me laugh and he's my best friend and I would always rather be with him than not, so those are pretty good indications."

Mad Men Season 5 Promo

Three Mad Men stars -- January Jones, Elisabeth Moss, and Vincent Kartheiser -- are in final talks to ink their two-year contracts, which secures their roles for the last two seasons of the award-winning series.

While Jones had fewer screen time in season five due to her pregnancy, Moss' character Peggy Olson was largely absent from the Sterling Cooper Draper Pryce offices, leaving fans to question where her storyline will go next if Moss remains for another two seasons. Other nominees in the same category are Breaking Bad, The Good Wife, Game of Thrones, Boardwalk Empire, British Drama Downton Abbey and newcomer Homeland. Jon Hamm Tells Mad Men Fans to Smoke and Drink

Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Drama, Prime Time, Features,

Jon Hamm as Don DraperJon Hamm is proud that Mad Men makes people want to booze and smoke. The 41-year-old actor plays hard-drinking and hard-smoking character Don Draper in the 1960s advertising drama and he admits he has to smoke "a lot" of herbal cigarettes for the part.

Jon doesn't care that the show seemingly inspires viewers to live unhealthy lifestyles and he instead encourages it: "Someone actually watched the pilot and counted the number of cigarettes I smoked in that episode and it was something like 74. You can hear it in my voice, it is a debilitating endeavor. But we're being realistic - people did smoke back then. My father smoked everywhere, even in the car, in the summertime, with the windows up - it was part of life. I have read that watching the show makes some people at home want to smoke and drink. I think, well, knock yourself out."

Rather than find it difficult to play someone so different from himself, Jon enjoys it. He says it's particularly fun to shoot womanizer Don's love scenes because he has been in a committed relationship with actress-and-screenwriter Jennifer Westfeldt for 15 years.

January Jones Thinks Betty Criticism is ‘Harsh’

Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Daytime, Prime Time, Features,

January Jones as Betty DraperJanuary Jones feels her Mad Men character is "harshly" judged.

The actress plays the feisty Betty Draper in the hit show and she says the fans' reaction to her actions as been unfair because Betty's husband Don Draper spent most of their marriage having affairs,

"She's judged so harshly. I remember, at the end of season two, she had that random affair in a bar, and the reaction was, 'How could she she have an affair? How could she do that to Don?' I was like, 'Do you watch the show?' I mean the guy has been sleeping with so many other women, talking to Betty's therapist behind her back and all these things... Betty finally gets hers in a bar, and it's like, 'What?'" January said, speaking of Betty's fling with another man.

Betty has also faced criticism for her mothering skills - especially when she slapped her daughter - and January admits the audience is now becoming scared of Betty as the 1960s drama goes on: "I used to have more people come up to me in series one and two, and they were a bit more sympathetic to Betty. I guess when she was more internal with her feelings, you pitied her more. Lately, though, the fans are scared of Betty a bit more - most people are just shielding me from their children."
