Quote of the Day: Amy Poehler on Jon Hamm

Jon Hamm and Amy Poehler

"I was due the next day. So it's my first kid, I'm in a Mad Men outfit, I turn to everybody and I hysterically start crying, and a really pregnant woman crying is terrifying. So, juicy tears just like squirting out of my eyes. And it was like the punch line to a joke, it's like, my doctor just died and I'm due tomorrow. And Jon Hamm, who I am just getting to know, comes over and puts his hands on my shoulder and is like, 'This is a really important show for me. I'm gonna need you to get your s*** together.' And I laughed so hard, I probably peed myself – I believe that going through crying to laughing adds like five years to your life."

- Amy Poehler recounts in her memoir how Jon Hamm helped her get through her first pregnancy on Saturday Night Live.

Mad Men

The advertising drama is hoping to gain its fifth Best Drama win, which would make it the only series ever to have won the accolade that many times. At present it is level on four victories with Hill Street Blues, L.A. Law and The West Wing. Other nominees in the same category are Breaking Bad, The Good Wife, Game of Thrones, Boardwalk Empire, British Drama Downton Abbey and newcomer Homeland. Kristen Wiig Leaves SNL?

Kristen WiigKristen Wiig held back tears as she made what is believed to be her last appearance on Saturday Night Live this past weekend.

The final sketch during the season finale saw the actress - who has been a cast member on the show for seven years - don a cap and gown with guest host Mick Jagger acting as high school principal during a graduation scene. Kristen's character was singled out as "one particular student who is leaving this summer," and she then danced with the Rolling Stones rocker, executive producer Lorne Michaels and other cast members to the group's hit "She's a Rainbow."

Kristen then struggled to keep her emotions in check as the show's full ensemble, including Amy Poehler and Jon Hamm, appeared to sing "Ruby Tuesday, which features the line :Still I'm gonna miss you."

Network NBC have not made any official announcement about Kristen leaving the show, or commented on the rumors that Jason Sudeikis and Andy Samberg are also departing as program regulars.

Jon Hamm Tells Mad Men Fans to Smoke and Drink

Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Drama, Prime Time, Features,

Jon Hamm as Don DraperJon Hamm is proud that Mad Men makes people want to booze and smoke. The 41-year-old actor plays hard-drinking and hard-smoking character Don Draper in the 1960s advertising drama and he admits he has to smoke "a lot" of herbal cigarettes for the part.

Jon doesn't care that the show seemingly inspires viewers to live unhealthy lifestyles and he instead encourages it: "Someone actually watched the pilot and counted the number of cigarettes I smoked in that episode and it was something like 74. You can hear it in my voice, it is a debilitating endeavor. But we're being realistic - people did smoke back then. My father smoked everywhere, even in the car, in the summertime, with the windows up - it was part of life. I have read that watching the show makes some people at home want to smoke and drink. I think, well, knock yourself out."

Rather than find it difficult to play someone so different from himself, Jon enjoys it. He says it's particularly fun to shoot womanizer Don's love scenes because he has been in a committed relationship with actress-and-screenwriter Jennifer Westfeldt for 15 years.

Elisabeth Moss Loves ‘Complicated’ Character

Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Drama, Prime Time, Features,

Elisabeth Moss as Peggy OlsonElisabeth Moss was attracted to Mad Men because of her character's "delicious complications."

The 29-year-old actress - who plays secretary-turned-copywriter Peggy Olson in the TV series - took on the role because she relished the opportunity to play a quiet, "naïve" secretary who sleeps her way to the top.

"I loved the fact that she was this really naive, inexperienced, wide-eyed woman - she didn't even know how to use a typewriter - and then, at the end of the pilot, she sleeps with one of her bosses."

Peggy has risen up through the ranks at the fictional 1960s Sterling Cooper advertising agency eventually progressing to effectively be main character Don Draper's [Jon Hamm] second-in-command in the creative department, but Elisabeth doesn't believe her alter-ego is out to clinch the creative director's job: "She's moving up and they're passing each other on the way. I have no idea but I don't think she wants [the job]. I think she wants her own job, her own life, her own power."

2011 Golden Globe Nominations (TV)

Boardwalk Empire

The Golden Globe contenders for the 2010-11 season were officially announced Tuesday morning in Beverly Hills by Katie Holmes, Josh Duhamel and Blair Underwood.

Last year's Best Comedy Series winner, Glee, lead all television programs with a total of five nominations. Five series -- 30 Rock, Boardwalk Empire, Dexter, The Good Wife and Mad Men -- tied for second place with three nods each.

Here are some of the notable omissions/inclusions from this year's list of nominees:

  • The Good Wife was the only non-cable series to be recognized for Best Drama.
  • The Walking Dead replaced that other horror series (True Blood), giving AMC two nominations in the Drama category.
  • The limitations of the Best Supporting Actor category meant only two acting noms for the cast of Modern Family.
  • Jennifer Love Hewitt has found herself pitted against Claire Danes ... and Dame Judi Dench.

The 68th Annual Golden Globe Awards -- hosted again by Ricky Gervais -- will air Jan. 16 on NBC.

(You can find the full list of nominees after the jump. Click here for the film nominations.)
