Thursday Ratings: Vampire Diaries Does Bloody Well
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Drama, Prime Time, Reality, Sci-Fi/Horror, Sports, ABC, CBS, FOX, NBC, The CW, Grey’s Anatomy, Ratings,
Last night, The Vampire Diaries managed to do what Melrose Place didn’t: make waves for CW. Approximately 4.8 million tuned in making it the most-watched series debut in the network’s history. (90210 was the previous record-holder.) Of course, the celebration probably won’t last long. The competition in the 8:00 hour will start heating up next week.
8pm
- NBC’s football coverage averaged 17.8 million (7.0/20 in 18-49) over the evening.
- Big Brother (2.6/8) racked up 7.6 million.
- The Vampire Diaries (2.1/6) had 4.8 million sucked in.
- Bones* (1.2/4) dug up 4.3 million.
- Grey’s Anatomy* (1.1/3) gathered 4 million.

Tuesday Ratings: Melrose, 90210 Disappoint
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Drama, Games, Music, Prime Time, Reality, ABC, CBS, FOX, NBC, The CW, Ratings,
The fall season hasn’t officially kicked into high gear, yet 90210 and Melrose Place are already coming up short. The sophomore drama debuted to nearly 2 million less than it did last year. Meanwhile, the freshman entry attracted a smaller number than Privileged did last September. (Note: CW has since canceled Privileged.)
8pm
- An NCIS* repeat (10.7 million, 2.1/6 in 18-49) was the hour’s largest draw.
- Hell’s Kitchen (7.6 million, 3.5/11) had the night’s best demos.
- America’s Got Talent* (1.5/5) got NBC warmed up with 6.8 million.
- Shark Tank* (1.1/3) attacked 3.4 million.
- 90210‘s debut (1.3/4) pulled in 2.6 million.

MONDAY (7/6)
- Make it or Break It (ABC Family, 8pm): “Trying to unwind, Payson, Emily and Kaylie head to a high-school party, but the evening isn’t as fun as they thought it would be.” They were lead to believe that ‘keg stands’ were an entirely different thing.”
- The Bachelorette (ABC, 8pm): “Jillian and her final four head to Spain for flamenco in Madrid and a picnic in Seville.” Their plans are interrupted when Javier Bardem asks her to fly away from the weekend.
- Here Comes the Newlyweds (ABC, 10pm): “The three remaining couples gaze into their futures by speculating on their 10th anniversaries.” Reality show pairs should only focus on making it to next year.
- Weeds (Showtime, 10pm): “Silas and Doug are off to see ‘The Wizard,’ a marijuana provider whom they need to supply cannabis for their dispensary.” This wizard can help fly people home, or wherever else they’d like to ‘travel’ to.

Summer Dates for Big Brother Announced
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Prime Time, Reality, CBS, News,
If you’re secretly hoping Wipeout would up the drama and add wasteful food stunts, then Big Brother may be the better option for you.
In just over a month, CBS - and a pregnant Julie Chen - will kick off the 11th installment (has there really been that many already?) of the program. As usual, the series will air thrice-weekly episodes. No word at this time what big twist the reality show will have up its sleeve this time around. Are half the contestants secretly transsexuals? Will bosses and fired employees find themselves competing against each other? Is one really a terminator?
Big Brother 11 premieres Thursday, July 9th at @ 8:00. The show will then air on Sundays @ 8:00 and Tuesdays @ 9:00.

Shows Planning a Return in 2009
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Comedy, Drama, Prime Time, Reality, ABC, Bravo, CBS, FX, HBO, Entourage, Renewals,
While it’s probably be safe to assume that Fringe and 90210 would both be handed 2009 renewal notices - especially since they’ve already been given full season orders - this television season is still far too young.
Here is, though, what we do know already about next year’s programming calendar:
- Big Brother (CBS) - Season 11
- Entourage (HBO) - Season 6
- Flashpoint (CBS) - Season 2
- Here Come the Newlyweds (ABC) - Season 2
- Kathy Griffin: My Life on the D-List (Bravo) - Season 5
- My Boys (TBS) - Season 3
- Sons of Anarchy (FX) - Season 2
- True Blood (HBO) - Season 2
Tuesday Ratings: House Dominates for FOX
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Drama, Games, Prime Time, Reality, Sci-Fi/Horror, ABC, CBS, FOX, NBC, The CW, House, Ratings,
Good news and bad news for FOX last night. Although House saw its lowest Tuesday ratings since 2005, the show did well enough to slaughter the competition. Meanwhile, Fringe saw a dramatic improvement over its premiere thanks to the strong lead-in.
8pm
- Approximately 14.7 million saw the season premiere of House (5.6/16 in 18-49).
- NCIS* (1.8/5) checked in with 9.6 million.
- The Biggest Loser: Families (3.2/9) weighed in with 7.9 million.
- The season finale of Wipeout (2.0/6) waved goodbye to 6 million.
- 90210 (3.3 million, 1.7/5) did about the same as last week.

Sunday Ratings: Steelers Steal Win for NBC
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Comedy, Drama, Prime Time, Reality, Sci-Fi/Horror, Sports, ABC, CBS, FOX, NBC, The CW, America’s Next Top Model, Desperate Housewives, Ratings,
Unless you’re willing to count the Big Brother clip show, Sunday Night Football was the only original program after 8pm last night. This lack of competition gave NBC an easy victory in both categories yesterday.
8pm
- Approximately 15.8 million watched the Pittsburgh Steelers defeat the Cleveland Browns on Sunday Night Football (6.4/16 in 18-49).
- Big Brother 10 (2.7/7) refreshed 10.3 million.
- Extreme Makeover: Home Edition* (7.1 million, 2.3/6) piled on another 1.2 million.
- A Fringe* repeat (2.3/6) got 5.7 million caught up.
- Privileged* (0.8/2) attended to 2 million viewers.
