President Barack Obama - White House

Around 10:45 pm EST, nearly every network and cable news network preempted regular programming to pre-announce an announcement made by the President of the United States: Osama bin Ladin is dead.

About an hour later, Barack Obama walked down the long red carpet in the wide main corridor of the White House, and stood at a podium alone to address the nation.

“It was nearly 10 years ago that a bright September day was darkened…” He went on the heart-wrenchingly, poetically describe the horrors of September 11, 2001, an event masterminded by Osama bin Ladin.

Dancing With the Stars kicked off its sixth elimination episode with a performance from New Kids on the Block and the Backstreet Boys, and the energetic numbers ("I Want it Thataway," "Step By Step") thrilled the in-house ground.

In the wake of such positive vibes, only good news could follow. Front-runners Romeo and Chelsea Kane were declared safe, and they enjoyed the rest of the elimination show in peace. Hines Ward and Kirstie Alley, both fan favorites, were quickly let off the elimination hook as well.

Kirstie Alley, Dancing With the Stars

For some celebs, Dancing With the Stars is a great career move. TV Land and HBO have both recently approached Kirstie Alley since she’s been on the show, asking her to headline two scripted comedy series.

Of the TV Land project, Alley said the series is “being written for me right now that I really love the concept of.” She had less information about the HBO gig; there’s no plot in place at the moment. Either way, we'd love to see Kirstie on a comedy series again.

Dancing With the Stars

With no clear leader, it’s been anyone’s game on Dancing With the Stars, and Tuesday’s elimination round was fraught with tension.

At the end of the Monday performances, three contestants were tied for the bottom slot. Popular dancer Ralph Macchio, who’s made it to the top of the leader board twice, found himself in last place along with model Petra Nemcova and reality star Kendra Wilkinson. Both women gained plenty of praise from the judges during their Monday performances, and the former Girl Next Door further distinguished herself by dancing the 1,000th competitive routine in show history.

All My Children

It’s official: All My Children has been canceled. ABC delivered the news in a shocking double elimination, axing AMC and One Life to Live on the same day.

Kelly Ripa, who played Hayley Vaughan Santos on the series, has already released a statement. “All My Children means so much more to me than any place,” she said of the set where she and husband Mark Consuelos met. “We had our children there, it was a big part of our lives, and I think that to cancel a show that has been on television for so many years, what are you going to replace it with?”

Dancing With the Stars 12 - Wendy WilliamsAnother celebrity was kicked off Dancing With the Stars on Tuesday night, but the elimination was hardly a shock. Monday’s performance round gave us the biggest surprise of the week when Kirstie Alley fell to the floor after being dropped by her partner.

Low vote-getter Wendy Williams was handed her walking papers at the end of the results show. She managed a combined score of only 15 from judges during the performance round, and found herself in the bottom three last week.

“It has been a wonderful opportunity for me,” the talk show host said of her time on the show. Williams thanked partner Tony Dovolani for teaching her “how to dance” before she said her final good-bye.

Kirstie Alley and Ralph Macchio, who both earned a combined score of 21 on Monday, were never in danger once. Kendra Wilkinson-Baskett and Chris Jericho found themselves in danger instead, though both received good marks and praise from the judges. Sugar Ray Leonard, who was in elimination danger last week, was declared safe early on in the episode.

Maksim Chmerkovskiy and Kirstie Alley looked beautiful together on Monday night’s Dancing With the Stars… until his leg gave out early on in the routine. The actress fell to the floor, the audience audibly gasped, and both performers quickly scrambled to their feet. The dance -- this week, it was the rumba -- was flawless after that. Watch the performance in the video above. The judges admired Alley’s spunk and quick recovery; they each awarded her a 7 as a balm.
