Did Jennifer Lopez’s diva-like reputation cost her a job on American Idol?

According to a source, yes.

Although it had been reported with near certainty that Lopez was going to be a judge on Idol’s tenth season, FOX execs had yet to confirm the rumors. There’s probably a reason for that: she was never officially locked in. Now, it appears J.Lo may have pushed herself out of the running.

“Her demands got out of hand,” an insider told People. “Fox had just had enough.”

Meanwhile, it’s still unclear whether Steven Tyler will become part of the judges’ panel—though he hasn’t been shy when it comes to talking about the job (to people outside of Aerosmith, of course).

Who knows—maybe this new vacancy will allow Nigel Lythgoe to get what he’s been hoping for: a Paula Abdul return.
