Shannen Doherty as Brenda WalshShannen Doherty Ready to Reprise

It took fourteen years, but this evening heralds the much-anticipated return of Shannen Doherty (Brenda Walsh) to one of the country’s most famous zip codes: .

Today her face graces magazine covers and the entertainment media is holding its breath to see the star re-emerge in her most famous role. After fading to the background of relative obscurity for the last decade, is suddenly very prominently in the spotlight.

“I’d be lying if I said I didn’t feel it,” said Doherty, 37, of her newfound popularity with the press. “It definitely feels good. It also feels scary.” When asked about this scary success, Doherty explained, “who wants to talk about stuff they did fifteen years ago?”

Shannen Doherty has been in television and movies from a very young age, but she achieved lasting fame through . Loved on-screen and gossiped about for her off-screen antics, Doherty made headlines for her partying, failed romances, and reported behind-the-scenes set bickering. Before Britney, before Lindsay, before all of today’s young stars became famous for being train wrecks, Doherty was wreaking havoc in the papers - and now that more than a dozen years have passed she’ll finally get the chance to prove her worth for 90210 fans once more.

As of this moment, Doherty is only contracted to star in four episodes of the upcoming spin-off. After the avalanche of bad press that followed Shannen’s first Beverly Hills stint, it’s natural to assume she would shy away from the press her reprisal might create - but Doherty isn’t afraid of the world’s entertainment writers. “What are they going to gossip about? I mean, honestly, I don’t leave my house.” That’s one way to stick it to them.

But for now, Brenda is back. Couldn’t this potentially be another train wreck? What if Doherty flies off the handle, creates a ruckus…gives us all much more to talk about? “It would be so irresponsible of me to mess things up again,” said Doherty. “I feel like I have this weird responsibility. I pushed and I tested those boundaries and there’s a reason why I’ve been given so many chances.”

It’s because we love you, Shannen. We want to see you make it work. Doherty isn’t promising anything, however, when it comes to her 90210 future. She has her own show and movie ideas she’d like to pursue, not to mention a social life to live.. “I really, really, really have learned to value the downtime in my personal life,” Doherty explained.

That’s not the only reason Doherty won’t commit - at least right now - to more episodes. “I kind of want to see how the audience responds first,” she explained. “I don’t want to overstay my welcome.”

Like that could happen.
