UPDATE: All three captains have agreed to return to the show.

There could be more than bad weather ahead for one of the most popular programs on the Discovery Channel.

Three of the cast members from the —Capts. Johnathan and Andy Hillstrand of the Time Bandit and Capt. Sig Hansen of the Northwestern—have released a joint statement announcing their departure from the series.

“We have been through a lot over the past year and unfortunately given the current situation with Discovery we are unable to continue participating in Deadliest Catch. It has been a fantastic ride, and we wish the best to all of the amazing and supportive Catch fans we have met over the years,” the trio stated.

This announcement comes shortly after a lawsuit was filed against the Hillstrands by the network. Discovery claims the two had agreed to participate in a spinoff special (Hillstranded) but failed to complete the project.

It is, of course, too soon to say how this development could affect the upcoming season. F/V Cornelia Marie’s Josh and Jake Harris, sons of the recently deceased Capt. Phil Harris, had already agreed to stay on with the show.

Although Sig, Johnathan and Andy could simply be working on a new deal with the cable channel, their move comes very close to the start of the next crabbing season. Filming on Season 7 was slated to begin in mid-October.
