America’s Next Top Model: Cycle 8: The Girl Who Impresses Pedro

TyraAfter being crowned The Most Hated Co-Model, Renee sought consolation from her husband.  She then tried to make amends (again!) by doing the little things like writing Jael an apology letter.  Unfortunately, Dionne was doubtful that Renee could do anything to make herself believable.

Meanwhile, a hairstylist came to the house to finally take care of Brittany’s whining…I mean hair.  Although Whitney managed to live with a weave since she was 12 years old, I’m not sure Brittany managed to last 12 days.  Thankfully for everyone, the hair issue was - once and for all - squashed.

The next day the girls walked into a large theater lobby and met up with Tia Mowry (Sister, Sister, The Game).  She helped prep them for an upcoming challenge.  The ladies were taught how to evoke different characters through voice, movement and props.  After the lesson, Tia gave each model a script to memorize.  For the next two hours, the ladies rehearsed three different characters:  a sensitive girl, a diva and a bubblicious model.

The girls proceeded inside the theater where Efren Ramirez (a.k.a. Pedro from Napoleon Dynamite) was waiting.  Much to Whitney’s delight, he was there to act out the scenes with them.  One by one, the thespians got on stage and demonstrated their abilities, or lack thereof.  Jaslene broke the cardinal rule and forgot her lines while Dionne really found her voice—a strange Jamaican accent.  Conversely, Whitney was full of personality from beginning to end.  But to everyone’s surprise, it was Renee who came out the big winner.  I personally thought she was overacting from the get go, but apparently I don’t know much about acting.

Able to choose a partner, Renee picked Dionne to share in her winnings.  Why Dionne?  Because Renee was still trying to win her over.  Unfortunately, all they got was stinkin’ I Voted for Renee and I Voted for Dionne t-shirts.  At least, that’s what they thought they won.  Back at home, the ladies were greeted with their real surprise:  a visit from family.  This was particularly special treat since they are both mothers.

Unfortunately, the family bonding was a bit too much for Natasha to witness.  Already missing her own child, she thought the prize was heartbreaking…and unfair.  She lost sleep that night wondering why she wasn’t allowed to see her child as well.  Let’s see, Natasha—it’s because in America we have this thing called

winning

.  Tired and depressed, she woke up the next day not knowing whether she could make it through her photo shoot.

Jay informed the models that they would be putting their acting skills into play.  This time around, they would portray infamous contestants from past cycles of ANTM…all while modeling shoes from Payless.  Additionally, they would meet and pose with the models they were emulating.

Despite expectations, Natasha pulled out a great shoot.  Starring as Michelle (The Girl With the Flesh-Eating Disease), she managed to get past her disappointment and look pretty (despite actually being ugly).  Unfortunately, Whitney (Shannon, The Girl Who Refused To Be Nude) continued to have problems with her expressions and body movement.  Jael (Rebecca, The Girl Who Fainted) struggled as well and ended up all over the place.  She was too busy grabbing at her partner that she didn’t focus on what she looked like.  Then there was Dionne.  She wasn’t thrilled about portraying a lesbian alongside Kim (The Gay Girl Who Kissed in the Limo).  But despite her initial apprehensions, Dionne actually managed to look comfortable through all her giggling.  She was forced to admit that she enjoyed working with another girl.

When it was over, it didn’t matter how Dionne felt—the judges loved the end result.  Her great body movement earned her the win this week.  Those facing elimination?  Whitney and Jael.  Although Whitney seemed poised and confident in real-life, her pictures had been lackluster.  As for Jael, she generally produced good photos…but it was her persona that was lacking.  The judges were getting wary of her questionable speaking ability.  But when it comes to being a model, it’s really more important to photograph well than speak clearly….right?  LOSER:  Whitney
