Seeing as entertainment news television, websites and all matter of celebrity blogs have been reporting on Whoopi Goldberg filling Rosie O’Donnell’s vacancy on The View, it come as no surprise that yesterday her post was officially announced. Well, maybe a surprise to Sherri Shepherd, who was also rumored to join with Goldberg. Whether or not she will join at a later date has not yet been revealed, but some speculate she may fill the void when Elisabeth Hasselbeck takes maternity leave in November. Barbara Walters announced Whoopi as O’Donnell’s replacement, saying “She’s brilliant, she’s funny, please join us in welcoming Whoopi Goldberg.” Goldberg joined the ladies briefly to say, “I hope so. I love this show. I love watching it, I love coming on it, I love you guys. It’s wonderful.” Awww, group hug. Sounds like this may be a much happier group than the Star Jones and Rosie seasons. Goldberg will be a permanent fixture for the 11th season, beginning September 4th.
