Friday Ratings: Tight Race for Few Viewers

Learning how to spell g-u-e-r-d-o-n was about the most exciting thing that happened to viewers on Friday evening. By night’s end, CBS was a winner in the viewers while NBC was tops in the demos.

  • ‘s coverage of the Scripps National Spelling Bee (1.1/4) had 4.6 million biting their nails.
  • * (4.4 million, 1.1/5) was off track by 500,000.
  • (3.7 million, 1.1/4) roped in 400,000 more.
  • ‘s Little Black Book (2.5 million, 0.9/3) saw 1.5 million less than last week’s movie.

Has the spelling bee always been broadcast on ABC?  I always thought it was on ESPN in previous years, but perhaps more people are watching it than before—it obviously did well in the ratings which would have surprised me, but I guess it is only up against repeats of other shows!
