Casting Corner: Ghost Whisperer, Chuck, CSI: NY and More

Pete Wentz and Ashlee Simpson-Wentz

Here’s a quick look at some of the casting announcements made recently:

Samantha Who?: When Samantha finally makes its return on March 26, the series will be adding a little bit of crazy. Angie Harmon (Women’s Murder Club) will play Gigi, Winston Funk’s insane ex-wife. As we previously announced, Billy Zane will replace Timothy Olyphant as Christina Applegate’s former beau.

How I Met Your Mother: Laura Prepon (That ‘70s Show) will be guesting on two episodes as another one of Ted’s women. But unlike the girl who got dumped on her birthday (twice), this particular ex is not one we (or Lily) will feel sorry for. Karen has a nasty reputation of cheating on her beaus. Sounds like a love match for Barney!

30 Rock: Broadway star Patti Lupone will soon add her voice to the NBC cast. The Tony award winner - and former matriarch in Life Goes On - is scheduled to star as Frank Rossitano’s (Judah Friedlander) mother. No date has been announced for her appearance.

Ghost Whisperer: Lizzie Maguire as a “woman of mystery”? That’s what Hilary Duff is slated to play in an upcoming episode of the Friday night hit. Duff’s character will somehow be involved - or will she? - in the death of a man. (Maybe he made the mistake of calling her Lizzie.) Look for Hilary on April 10.

CSI: NY: On March 18, look for musicians Pete Wentz and Ashlee Simpson-Wentz to bring trouble to the CBS drama. The newlyweds will set aside parenthood to star as “Bonnie and Clyde wannabes.” (I’m confused - I thought Beyonce and Jay-Z were the new Bonnie and Clyde?)

Chuck: Here’s another casting two-fer. Later this spring, Scott Bakula will enter the picture as Chuck and Ellie’s long-lost father. The Quantum Leap star will play a down-and-out man who claims billionaire Ted Roark (Chevy Chase) stole all his ideas when they worked together. Both actors are reportedly scheduled for at least three episodes.

My Name is Earl: Although we still don’t why Crab Man is on the run, we have just learned one new thing about his former life. According to TV Guide, Danny Glover is Joy’s surprise father-in-law. The Lethal Weapon star should make his appearance later this season.
