The match-up between the New York Yankees and Tampa Bay Devil Rays this weekend simply wasn’t fair. The overall scoring for the four games gave the Yankees a 49-26 advantage. Shelly Duncan cashed in with three home runs over the series, including two he hit today. The Yankees were toying with the Devil Rays yesterday compared to today’s offensive outburst. Andy Pettitte was superb, even though he didn’t need to be. He went six innings strong, and struck out eight. Joe Torre was stunned with the Yankees intimidating presence today.

“I’ve never seen anything like it,” Torre said. “Even in batting practice you don’t get hits every time you swing the bat.”

Shelly Duncan, who was called up to give the Yankees a power option at the DH couldn’t be happier after his breakout day.

“When you have a big day like this, you can’t feel content,” Said Shelley, the son of St. Louis Cardinals pitching coach Dave Duncan and brother of Red Birds slugger Chris Duncan. “It’s a crazy experience, you kind of get frozen in the moment.”

Of course, games like these can only be good for a recently surging Yankees team. Yes, they should take three games out of four from such a struggling team, but such offensive performances cannot be anticipated. Shelly Duncan, who hit 26 Home Runs for AAA Scranton/Wilkes Barre, has legitimate Major League power. He is now an established threat at the plate. However there was not a Yankee to have a bad day at the plate. Sean Henn was the only player who did not get a hit in an at-bat for the Yankees today. Let that register…Sean Henn hit for the Yankees in an American League game. Everyone else in the order got a hit. Astonishing numbers for the Yankees today will be momentum as the Yankees face the Kansas City Royals for the next four games.
