Sosa Successful In 07 Debut

Jorge Sosa
Jorge Sosa was very impressive on Saturday. He may have been impressive enough to hang around in the Majors. Making his season debut with the New York Mets, Sosa went 6.1 innings, gave up two runs on just four hits, and struck out three. Another important factor to his victory last night were his two walks. Sosa has the stuff to succeed in the majors, but in Spring Training he had severe control issues. The Mets would go on to defeat the Arizona Diamondbacks 6-2, thanks in part to a home run from Shawn Green in the 2nd inning. Green had three RBI’s on the night.

How Mike Pelfrey pitches today could affect Sosa’s future with the Mets this year. Pelfrey has not been at all good this year. He has an 0-3 record, with a 6.75 ERA to boot. Either Sosa or Pelfrey could get a trip down to New Orleans after today’s game. Pelfrey has played only briefly in Triple A, after being sent down last year during August. He could still need developing. Sosa has pitched very well in AAA this year, going 4-0 with a 1.13 ERA. Alot is at stake for Pelfrey today, he must bring his A game today to stay in the big leagues.

To make room for Jorge Sosa on the 25 man roster the Mets sent down relief pitcher Ambiorix Burgos. The Mets play the Diamondbacks today at 4:40 PM east coast time. With the Mets victory last night they have won 13 straight games in Arizona dating all the way back to 2004.
