On Monday night the Dallas Stars took a 4-1 loss at the hands of the Detroit Red Wings who, with the victory, advance to the Stanley Cup finals. The Red Wings never let up from the word go, scoring three goals in the first period and one goal in the 2nd.

“We were relentless,” Kris Draper of the Detroit Red Wings said. “It was just a solid first period and obviously the difference in the hockey game. … We’re back in the Stanley Cup and it sounds great for us.”

The goals to be had in this game from the Red Wings were had by Kris Draper, Pavel Datsyuk, Dallas Drake and Henrik Zetterberg. For the Stars, Stephane Robidas scored in the 3rd period, well after the damage from the Red Wings had been inflicted.

“I thought it was a combination of us hoping to win and Detroit pushing the issue to win,” Dallas Stars coach Dave Tippett said. “I think they had a real hard focus around our net.”

One big part of the Red Wings victory was the performance of goalie Chris Osgood, who saved 28 of 29 attempted shots. The playoff victory was number 48 for Osgood as a member of the Red Wings, that’s the new franchise record. Osgood passed hall-of-famer Terry Sawchuk for the record.

“That was something that I wanted, one of my goals among others,” Osgood said. “It was a special night.”

Members of the Dallas Stars were disappointed after the game, but looked at the game from a positive aspect.

“We came a long way this year, but this wasn’t our ultimate goal,” said Dallas captain Brenden Morrow. “We did make some progress. We put a lot of work into this and want to do it again. This will make us hungrier.”

Comments:

As of right now, game 6 is going on, and Detroit is looking really tough… I don’t think the Pittsburgh Penguins can force a game 7, but I guess weirder things have happened! Dallas should rest assured that they got beaten by the best team in the NHL (at least thats some consolation)
