Scott Baker did all that he could do for his team on Sunday, but the Minnesota Twins offense was simply not up to the task of Vincente Padilla and the Texas Rangers. Padilla, Eddie Guardado, and closer C.J Wilson combined for a nine inning shutout. The game’s sole run came in the 6th inning, when rookie catcher Taylor Teagarden hit a solo home run.

“What he did today is what he’s capable of,” Rangers skipper Ron Washington said of his starter Padilla. “It was encouraging for the team because we’ve been struggling to get some things going. He gave us all a shot in the arm.”

Despite taking the loss, Baker had an excellent outing. He’d go eight innings, allowing just two hits and one earned run. Unfortunately for Scott, Padilla also had a great performance, going seven innings without allowing a single run. After the game, Padilla was lauded by his teammates for his start.

“The only thing he (Padilla) didn’t do was clean the stadium after the game,” Texas closer C.J. Wilson said.

Twins catcher Joe Mauer had nothing but positives to say of Baker’s outing.

“If Scott can do that the rest of the year, we’re going to be pretty tough,” Mauer said. “He threw the ball well. That’s a guy you want to go after, and he put a good swing on it. I wish we could’ve got him some runs.”
