Joe Saunders led the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim to their 2nd straight victory, a 5-4 win over the Seattle Mariners. Saunders, the 26 year old southpaw, went 8 innings strong, allowing 4 earned runs on 6 hits. The victory boosted Saunders to 3-0 on the season, and gave the Halos an 11-7 record.

Though it didn’t turn out the way he would have liked, this game was R.A Dickey’s first one back in the major leagues since 2006. The reformed knuckleballer went 6 innings for the M’s, but allowed 5 runs on 8 hits.

“I flog myself more than just a little for throwing him (Torii Hunter) that pitch,” Dickey said, “especially after I had thrown him some good knuckleballs and he was waving at them. I tried to sneak [a fastball] in on him, and it was the wrong decision.”

Mariners first baseman Richie Sexson hit 2 home runs in the loss. He hit a solo job in the 2nd inning, and a 3 run bomb plating Jose Vidro and Adrian Beltre in the 7th. Sexson was close to his 3rd of the night in the 9th inning, when he hit a deep blast to center field with 2 men out. The ball wouldn’t leave the yard though, as Torii Hunter robbed it, in typical Torii Hunter fashion.

“I thought I got enough of it,” Sexson said. “That’s why his glove has gold on it. He made a great play. That’s a tough one to swallow. I hit it to the deepest part of the park. The ball doesn’t travel as well at night ... but regardless, it was a great play. He is the best there is. You come to expect stuff like that, plays that seem to find him. He not only has the opportunity, but he has the knack to make them nine out of 10 times.”
