Tuesday Ratings: Viewers Not Interested in Secret Talents

Top Chef Chicago: Manuel Packs His Knives and Goes

Episode 4 of Top Chef Chicago on Bravo TV was all about meshing technique with imagination. In the end, gentlemanly chef Manuel paid the price for his partner Spike’s lack of both. Manuel is out and classically trained molecular gastronomist Richard was Top Chef of the night thanks to his team’s whimsical take on a salmon dish inspired by Willy Wonka and The Chocolate Factory. This episode began with a rather mundane Quickfire Challenge. Guest judge, …

Tuesday Ratings: FOX Cooks Up the Win

Hell’s Kitchen - a usual summer staple - made an appetizing debut last night.  Combined with American Idol, the show helped FOX win in both the demos and the viewers. 8pm American Idol (25.2 million, 9.3/25 in 18-49) grew in size since last week. NCIS* (10.2 million, 2.1/6) was up 800,000. The Biggest Loser (8.2 million, 3.3/8) tacked on 300,000 lbs. Just for Laughs (1.4/4) took in just 5.5 million. Beauty and the Geek (1.6 million, …

Top Chef Chicago: Episode 3

I’ve decided to enact a strict “three episode” policy for all reality shows. I won’t judge how good or bad the show is until I’ve sat through three entire episodes. This policy is painful at times, but necessary to weed awful shows out of the limited time I have to watch TV. (See Here Come The Newlyweds.) I’ve now completed my preliminary obligation to Top Chef Chicago and despite some reservations (no pun intended) after …

This Week on TV (3/10-3/16)

(You can view TV Envy’s Post-Strike Television Schedule here.)  MONDAY (3/10) The Bachelor: Where Are They Now? (ABC, 8pm):  “Highlights from past seasons include segments catching up with past bachelors (Andrew Firestone and Aaron Buerge) and former contestants.”  So the whole point of the show is to say there is no point to this show.  Look at how successful it’s been! Canterbury’s Law (FOX, 8pm):  Series premiere.  “Julianna Margulies stars as a maverick defense lawyer …

Post-Strike Television Schedule

Now that we have come to the end of the writers’ strike, it’s time to once again update our television programming schedules. Mid-season replacements have had seen their debuts shuffled (e.g. New Amsterdam), some programs are coming back with new episodes (e.g. Scrubs, 30 Rock) while other shows aren’t slated to return until next year (Pushing Daisies). Here you can find a compilation of the 2008 post-strike schedules for the five major networks.  I would highly …
