Is the Industry Getting Sick of The Hills?

A recent poll offered up by PopEater poses a very interesting question…and raises a few more. Saying the site has “just about had it” with the “cheesiness” of Heidi Montag and Spencer Pratt, stars of MTV’s The Hills, the site swears to stop covering the pair - if that’s what the public wants. ...

Former special effects gurus-turned reality stars, the MythBusters took on their biggest challenge yet for last night’s episode: the famed moon landing. For decades (specifically since 1969) people have persisted in believing the whole thing was a hoax. Was it? According to the episode’s opening dialogue, 20% of Americans to this day (well, perhaps not this day - but let’s say a week ago) persist in believing the well-publicized moon landing was actually faked. Many …

The Two Coreys: End of the Line?

After two short seasons, Sunday night’s finale seemed to toll a death knell for the A&E series The Two Coreys. Is it all really over? I see much more reality TV in store for this pair. Season two of the show displayed a marked difference from the more lighthearted fun of the first, which often made Corey Haim’s antics seem childish but never truly harmful. The season that was marked with drama and squabbling ended …

Silenced: Isaac Hayes

Older generations know him as the smooth, deep-voiced singer who won countless awards for the Shaft theme song. Younger generations remember him as South Park’s Chef, that singing Lothario who dispensed earthy advice with cafeteria-created Salisbury steak. He was Isaac Hayes, and sadly he was silenced this past Sunday at the age of 65. Hayes was pronounced dead in Memphis, TN after being found by a family member in his home. Hayes first gained attention …

A Final Bow for the Gladiators?

In my estimation, NBC has always been something of a ride-it-till-the-wheels-fall-off kind of network. Habitually in fourth place behind all the other major networks, the channel is always striving for a first-place hit. For a brief moment in the winter of the writers’ strike, NBC found television gold in the form of a re-make. More than twelve million tuned in for the January premiere of the first season of the re-vamped American Gladiators and NBC …

In case you haven’t heard, VH1 is debuting a new reality series tonight. This time, there’s no dating game or gritty substance abuse - there’s just Diddy. VH1’s I Want to Work for Diddy premieres tonight at 9pm ET. In this season opener, thirteen strangers (who answered the national wide cattle call VH1 put forth) will be welcomed to Bad Boy (the seat of Diddy’s empire) where they will be interviewed by a panel of Sean …

Randomly Commenting About: JCPenney’s Breakfast Club Commercial

Have I gotten so old that kids are already doing horrible remakes of things from my youth? When I first heard the Jonas Brothers massacre ‘Kids in America,’ I just wanted to cry. Now I’m directing my evil eye toward JCPenney. I’m sorry - but no one should ever be allowed to tamper with The Breakfast Club...or anything to related to John Hughes. Ever. ...

My Nagging Questions About Little House on the Prairie

Last fall, I took a moment to air a nagging question I had about Pushing Daisies. This time around, I have a list of thoughts concerning a show I’ve watched more times than I could possibly count. When I was a young child, I became addicted to episodes of Little House on the Prairie. Now, thanks to the Hallmark Channel, I could continue watching the show at least 4x a day. And while I love …

Big Brother 10: Brian Evicted/Jessie is New HOH

He flew too close to the sun and got burned. Brian, the former Air Force crew chief from San Francisco, talked himself right out of the Big Brother 10 house. He wasn’t even nominated originally. Jerry, the Head of Household, put Renny and Jessie up for nomination, but Jessie won the Power of Veto. This coincided with increasing suspicion of Brian’s attempts to control other house guests and tell them how to vote. At one …

More Reasons Why Regis Philbin Should Retire

A few months ago, I listed 8 reasons why I thought Regis Philbin should start making his retirement plans. Now I would like to add a #9 and #10. #9. Back in May, the talk show host was talking about the recent American Idol finale when he said, “What happened to the past winners? Where are they today?”  When told by co-host Kelly Ripa that they come on their show “all the time,” Regis responded, “Really? …
