This Week on TV (12/3-12/9)

MONDAY (12/3) The Closer (TNT, 8pm):  The special two-hour holiday episode brings Brenda’s parents into the investigative fold.  Nothing says Christmas like talking blood with your blood. Heroes (NBC, 9pm):  (NOTE:  This is the last new episode left.)  ‘Peter squares off against former friends thanks to Adam’s confusing story about the Shanti virus.’  He shouldn’t fault Adam; the confusing storyline is to blame. K-Ville (FOX, 9pm):  ‘Boulet and Cobb investigate an insurance adjuster’s murder.’  As …

Still high from Wednesday night’s victory, CBS came back for another ratings blow: 8pm Last night’s Survivor (14.8 million, 4.8/13 in 18-49 demo) was the hour’s largest draw. Ugly Betty (10.7 million, 3.5/9) remained even with last week. Are You Smarter Than A 5th Grader? (9.6 million, 2.9/8) was up about 800,000. My Name is Earl (8 million, 3.6/10) and 30 Rock (6.5 million, 3.2/8) were both fairly steady. Smallville (1.8/5) closed off the hour with …

NBC ‘Green Week’: An Opinion

Ok, I’m all for saving the world, cleaning up the air and preventing whatever horrible fate Al Gore has decided awaits us in the coming decades - but this NBC “Green Week” is absolutely awful. In a week that has seen this huge writer strike, it would seem to me that network television needs every spark it can possibly get. What did NBC deliver instead? The guy from Windtalkers (now on Law & Order: SVU) telling …

It was another tight race between the Eye and Alphabet networks.  On the first night of sweeps, CBS walked away with the viewers while ABC scored a win in the demos. 8pm Survivor (4.8/13 in 18-49 demo) had 14.3 million viewers watch the two tribes merge last night. Ugly Betty (9.9 million, 3.4/9) remained about even with last week. A 2-hour Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader? (8.5 million, 2.5/6) came back after a World …

Thursday Ratings:  Grey’s Performs Well Against Baseball

A CSI repeat may have given Grey’s Anatomy a nice boost, but FOX still walked away with the best numbers overall. 8pm Game 2 of the World Series (4.8/14 in 18-49 demo) averaged 15.6 million viewers for the evening. Survivor (14.1 million, 4.4/12) was up from last week. Ugly Betty (9.8 million, 3.2/9) held steady. Thursday Ratings: ‘Viva Laughlin’ Off to Disappointing Start

The debut of CBS’s Viva Laughlin (and the temporary departure of Without A Trace) should have made it an easy night for ABC.  But despite low numbers at 10pm, CBS still came very close to taking the night in both viewers and demos. 8pm With 13.4 million viewers, the aging Survivor (4.3/13 in 18-49 age group) shows no signs of slowing down. FOX’s Red Sox/Indians game (3.3/8) averaged about 11.6 million fans through the evening. Ugly …

Thursday Ratings: ‘Grey’s’ and ‘CSI’ Both Come Out on Top

The 9pm hour proves to be Thursday night’s most heated battleground.  And just like Wednesday night, ABC ruled the 18-49 age group while CBS gathered the largest audience. 8pm Survivor: China (14 million viewers, 4.5/13 in 18-49 demo) easily won the hour in viewers and the valuable age group. Ugly Betty (3.5/10) grew by 500,000 to 10.4 million. My Name Is Earl (7.7 million, 1/9) was down about 250,000; 30 Rock (6.6 million, 3.0/8) lost three …

CBS Takes the Thursday Ratings Win

Although the introduction of ‘Seinfeld Vision’ helped the premiere of 30 Rock, it didn’t do do much for the network.  CBS took Must See Thursday—followed by ABC, NBC, FOX and CW. 8pm Survivor (14.1 million, 4.4/13 in 18-49 demo) took the hour in both viewers and the key demographic group. ABC’s Ugly Betty (9.8 million, 3.4/10) saw a loss of over 1 million viewers this week, while My Name Is Earl (8 million, 3.4/10) lost 1/2 …
