  • Love the list, David. Sadly, so many of these articles transfer over to the movie industry as well; I cracked up when you mentioned the ubiquitous multiple-personalities plot that has plagued TV (and film) since the success of Sybil. Now moviegoers are forced to sit through terrible re-hashes of the same cliche, most recently in Identity, Secret Window and, to some extent, The Number 23. Send this to directly to the TV execs, but tell them to pass it on to their film departments. Oh, and keep up the good work!

  • It begs one question: What do we value as viewers -- educational properties or authenticity? The purpose of the show is to educate people about the dangers of the wilderness and how to survive them. Grylls is still providing important information, but Discovery has chosen to dramatize the avenue through which that information reaches the public. I personally don't mind the controversy. The show is compelling and educational despite the façade.

  • 100% UNDEBUNKABLE (not a word)!? Wow. It must be COMPLETELY different than the first and second editions -- and I mean 100% CHANGED in every conceivable way, with mountains of DIFFERENT evidence -- for it to be "UNDEBUNKABLE." I can't wait to see it.

  • Hmm. Missing apostrophes, no capitalization, a typo, an obvious lack of proof-reading. I'm not going to say it . . .

  • Yeah, people seem to be hung up on the film's plausibility. This is how I see (rationalize?) the story.
    • Alright, the Earth has another four billion years before kicking the bucket, and the idea that it would happen only fifty years from now is pretty far fetched. But science isn't perfect. It's based on tested hypotheses -- what else could we rely on when the thing's 90 million miles away? Isn't it possible that something unforeseen could have an affect on the sun's vitality?
    • Okay, true -- the technology now seems centuries away from any that could send humans to the sun. But necessity is the mother of invention. If the sun started dying tomorrow, wouldn't humanity use every possible resource to save itself? And the ship, its "payload," and the possibility of survival are blatantly stated to be theoretical in the film.
    • For me, the future is pretty wide open to speculation, and humanity's reaction in the film, to endure in the face of annihilation, is spot on.

    • You can't argue with the convenience Blockbuster offers, but their selection still leaves much to be desired. If I need a specific film, especially a new release, I find I'll spend more time and energy trying to obtain it from Blockbuster (either in-store or online) than I do just waiting patiently for the mail and Netflix. Not only that, but Blockbuster's Blu Ray loyalty has excluded thousands (including myself) from the convenience of renting HD in-store. Once the novelty and brand leverage wear off, Blockbuster will no longer be a threat.

    • You missed a few things, David. SYTYCD requires much more skill and perseverance than does Idol. This isn't to say that singing is easy, but once you've perfected your voice, different genres can be easily learned. And Idol is weighed down by music that is often bad -- I'm speaking for myself here, but most of it is unlistenable. And the occasional enjoyable song just makes you wish the real artist were singing. SYTYCD, while diverse in nature, will eventually give you something to be excited for (a Shane Sparks hip-hop routine will always get me going). And the dancing is usually short -- I haven't seen many routines longer than 30-40 seconds. If you're bored, then those routines/dancers deserve to go home. If you get excited about one routine (there's gotta be one), then that duo should get your vote. And don't worry about Mary Murphy -- she'll grow on you a bit by the end of the show. I can't stand Mia Michaels. Her pretentious, self-important attitude is enough to make me sick.
