You've gotta admit, though, at first glance the box does look like a strange crossover between a PS3 and Xbox game... just saying maybe Sony Studios should've thought through their cover art a little more.

  • If you do some research online into how the Wii's motion sensing actually works, I think you'll find that's not the case. While the sensor bar is used for "pointing" style games like Red Steel or Metroid Prime 3, where the Wiimote is used to direct a reticule on screen (something the PS3 controller doesn't do obviously), the sensor bar is NOT used for tilt-control functionality. So when you see the videos for games like Excite Truck or other driving games on the Wii, the sensor bar is not being used at all - instead it's controlled by the Wiimotes internal gyroscopic sensors. Now, you could make the argument that the Wiimote doesn't have any analog sticks (which would cut down on costs when compared to the PS3 controller), but frankly I don't think that's a major expenditure.

  • Good article! I couldn't agree more - for a world that is based almost entirely around press releases and major events, game bloggers are always fighting for any little tidbit of information they can get. And when, through either engenuity or (legal) sleuthing, they're able to get something interesting, I say "fair game". If a company wants to keep their cards close to their chest, that's their problem, and they need to learn how to do it. Asking reporters not to publish what they've seen and/or punishing them for publishing material is bad for journalism and the public in general. But hey, our president does it too, so who can blame them ;-)

  • It appears you're right, good catch... the EON was not actually used for this game, although I don't feel too bad making the mistake since even some of EA's own employees got it wrong (see the preview over at this site where they mention that company reps told them "The game is built around the Everything or Nothing engine, but has been dramatically improved.") Regardless of whether the engine was the same one though, I think my main point still holds -- it's quite obvious that EA was hoping to capitalize off the success of EON and built the FRWL engine to be nearly identical in every aspect: from the shooting, to the driving-based missions, to even small things like the controls for hiding behind objects or changing weapons. Unfortunately, I felt like it didn't add anything of substance to that package... Thanks for the comments though! It's good to have people keeping you on your toes so that you get your facts straight.
