I’m a Seattle native which means, at heart, that I am a dilettante. I love inclement weather, crappy sports teams, traveling, and making wild, outrageous claims that I will try to back up retroactively. I have lived in Seattle most of my life, aside from four years on the east coast attending Yale University, rowing on the Crew team and getting used to being in the bottom 3rd of most every class.
Favorite Gear Live Site
Online media, all things tech, movies, t.v. shows - basically anything that can be consumed in plasma-screen form.
I run the gamut. Social Distortion, Elliot Smith, Wolfmother, The Dropkick Murphys, Merle Haggard, Johnny Cash and Willy Nelson all the way down to Mos Def, Aesop Rock, The Fugees, The Kleptones, M.I.A., The Clash, Broken Bells and N.W.A. If I had to pick my Desert Island top 5 albums they would have to be (in no particular order): Guns N’ Roses - Appetite for Destruction, Pearl Jam - Ten, The Fugees - The Score, Social Distortion - Somewhere Between Heaven and Hell, Bob Marley - Live. In a nod to my birthplace, Finland, I have been known to blow apart my marginal car stereo by playing Children of Bodom at volume 11. Yes, my Ford Edge’s stereo goes to 11. I may have painted ‘11’ on to the console using shoe-polish, but it still goes to ‘11’.
I love old movies and new movies; crappy and great; prolific and indie; genre-defining and formulaic eye-candy.
Favorite Foreign Film: Amelie.
Favorite Gangster film: Goodfellas.
Favorite 80’s Comedy: The Breakfast Club & Real Genius.
Favorite Movie Adaptation of a FOX T.V. series the got canceled: Serenity (and soon to be tied with Arrested Development…Hopefully).
Favorite Cary Grant Comedy: His Girl Friday.
Favorite obscure movie to name-drop and judge people for not knowing: The Cremaster Cycle
Favorite movie involving a creepy bunny-rabbit costume: Sexy Beast (no, not Donnie Darko, fanboy!)
And so on…
It’s like asking me what my favorite book is - it all depends on my mood. I grew up watching The Muppet Show, Buck Rogers, MASH, Diff’rent Strokes and The A-Team, mixed in with re-runs of Bonanza and The Brady Bunch, all of which I will still watch at the drop of a hat. In college I watched Freaks and Geeks, Undeclared, The Sopranos, OZ, and lots of reruns of Magnum P.I. and Nightcourt. The shows that I own DVD’s of are Northern Exposure, The Simpsons, News Radio, Arrested Development, Dead Like Me, Firefly and Battlestar Galactica (the new series). I also have seen every episode of The X-Files and 21 Jumpstreet, so step off. Currently I waste time (read: eat con queso dip with Doritos while wearing my Superman pajamas) watching Burn Notice, Sons of Anarchy, The Wire, Community, Castle, Weeds, Dollhouse, Justified, How I Met Your Mother, Tosh.0, Man vs. Food, No Reservations, Gangland, The Office, Leverage, Fringe and Lost.
