  • Sarge will be pinch-hitting for me next week, so I thought I'd get the comments rolling for these two match-ups. Love the first game this week; it might be the first time in this tourney where there isn't a likely consensus pick. If Crash and Roy played Yao and Parker seven times, conceivably it could be 4-3 either way, whereas maybe in the previous match-ups, opinion was a little more clear-cut towards one team. I want to pick the team that's more fun, but I think Tony and Yao take this one. Parker is lightning quick, and he's playing so amazing right now. I think Roy can hang with him for a bit, but he's an expert at playing the two man game with TD; Yao isn't as polished, but the result would be just as effective. Yao would control the boards in the end, and even though Crash and Roy would make it a great game, I think they fall short. In the second game, I like Odom and Jamison. Odom has point forward skills, and Jamison has the three-point shot. McGrady would be brilliant in this kind of match-up but that leaves Bibby guarding a skilled big man in either Odom or Jamison. The rule change to losers out this year makes a difference in this game, I think. T-Mac has it in him to go on a huge scoring streak and take his pairing to a win, but with these rules him and Bibby would lose because of the defensive match-up problems.

  • Thanks for the input. Speculation is accepted as a limiting factor for these articles when writing them. You're right, the sites I referenced are not basing draft order on anything concrete because the lottery hasn't happened yet. But as I was trying to be clear in the article, I'm looking at these guys with a serious fantasy basketball slant. We have a rough idea where Gordon's gonna go and based on standings we have a rough idea of the teams that will be drafting in that area. So if say Gordon does get drafted by the Bucks, that would suggest maybe one of their current guards gets moved, right? And that would mean fantasy fallout. Which to me, is fun to discuss. Thanks again.

  • Really good question, Rza. I know of no such site myself. How about it, loyal readers, anyone able to help out? The auction draft I wrote about will be held next week. I'll be sure to post the results on here.

  • Thanks for the hometown slant, Brandon. Great insight. And yes, the point is, Barbosa is a great pick at this point. I will take full credit, even though that's the one pick I haven't made for myself this year!

  • Well, call me influenced too much by the book ":07 Seconds or Less" by Jack McCallum, but other sources have reported similar personality traits and behaviours. He sulks. He'll tank a defensive assignment just so it doesn't look obviously bad in the post-game. He'll refuse a defensive match-up because it puts him on the hot seat. He has a serious jealous streak on the attention Nash gets. All that don't matter for us fantasy fools, and he is fantasy gold, no doubt. I like him too, but feel he could up his production EVEN MORE by just leaving that unappreciated chip buried deep within his stack.

  • Holy jumping to conclusions, Batman! Poor Brandon, the rest of us were the ones that adjusted his list so that a lot of PF/C players, like TD, Bosh, Amare, Gasol, etc., are listed at center. After all, that's how many a fantasy GM would take advantage of their positional eligibility. I guess it would have helped to release the PF and C rankings together. Roger and John, thanks for stopping by anyways. But you both forgot to leave your own blog addresses so we can check out how your rankings stack up!

  • Hey Patrick, thanks for guest-spotting! It's like when Arnold visited Mrs. Garrett on the Facts of Life...money! You clearly explained why Jamison slips in drafts. On the other hand, he has next to zero bust potential as long as he can stay on the floor.

  • Yes, that was an inside joke of sorts. Sarge seems to like the guy, though. He's picked him in every mock I've seen him do this year.

  • Haha, good read, Sarge. What a punk, this T-Mac. One puny game over my under on the over/under prediction? Actually I took a chance on McGrady last year. He had a couple of games where he played less than a quarter. Of course there were other games where he played under 30 minutes and came up with stellar production.

  • Nice milestone for us, boys! It's been a blast writing for this blog. Judging from our top 10 all-time posts, the mock draft blog is the most popular thing we do. Hope everyone is enjoying this year's version. Let's build on year one as we kick off Year Two!

    HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO US!!!
