  • Now Arenas is iffy for the next game, which obviously tempers any enthusiasm for his good start. Assuming he only misses a game or two, and can play 70+ for the year, he'll bring very good return for fantasy teams.

  • The risk was, Phil, that Lee was unsigned when early birds drafted him. He'll be great on the Knicks, of course, but no one ever knows how the free agency thing works out. He theoretically could have ended up in Memphis sitting behind Zach Randolph, or accepted a smaller role and smaller deal to land on a top contender for one year before cashing in. In terms of fantasy ball, I've seen Lee go as high as the early 3rd. He could be considered a risk there even when playing his best just because at that point in the draft, there are still 20 ppg scorers from all positions, big men who will block more shots, and veteran players with a more proven fantasy record. Don't wanna come off as a hater, though. Lee is a very, very solid pick. He just won't be the bargain he was last year.

  • Depending on how active and how deep your league is, a little patience on Jason Thompson should be in order. Eno knows his stuff. I could see the Kings trading Brad Miller to a contender at some point, and thus giving both Thompson and Spencer Hawes a chance to develop. Or, like Eno says, Mikki Moore will get demoted to the bench. Thompson seems like the type of player that will get added and dropped a couple of times during the season, kinda like Luis Scola last year. All about timing.

  • Hey Eno, Thanks for the comments. When I wrote this, Miami hadn't played yet. It's worked out for you, sure. Delonte was not picked up in our league, but anyone that drafted him should be reasonably glad that he is starting and getting time. But yes, good move with Chalmers, though in a weekly league like ours, you'll have to wait until week two to get him into your lineup. Neither is an ideal #2 PG in my opinion. Marbury landing with the Heat, or Shaun Livingston working his way back to some kind of form, or some love going towards Daequan Cook's way could have us looking at this differently. We'll just have to wait and see. Delonte was your last round pick. You sound unimpressed with him. Do you remember why you didn't just draft Chalmers as a last round flier in the first place? peace.

  • Hi, Dani. Thanks for reading. I guess that's always going to be part of the problem, that it's seen as "nothing" and a "children's joke." I understand it was not offensive in Spain, after all the photo was run continuously in the newspaper. I did hear that Jose Calderon has been e-mailing fans personally to those that have contacted him about the team photo and his comments. I agree him and the team should have been more forthcoming; they are public figures and they work in North America. In my opinion, reaction should not have come as a surprise to them. I guess continuing to learn from and about each other, including what people find offensive, is what the world needs to continue to do. Bottom line, if you're reading our posts here, it means you like fantasy hoop, and people should be on the Calderon train this year. He should be a very efficient player once again. Again, thanks for reading and offering your perspective.

  • Hey bucko, Reasonable question. I guess when I wrote that, I was alluding to a couple of things. 1. 8 and 9 cat leagues are probably the most popular out there these days. 2. For the most part, when we're making picks, the amount of turnovers a player makes is not a big factor, especially in the early rounds. Take a look at the top 10 in to's last year. Dwyane Wade, Steve Nash, LeBron, Deron Williams, Jason Kidd, Carmelo Anthony, Dwight Howard, Kobe Bryant, Josh Smith, Hedo Turkoglu, all very effective fantasy players last year, to say the least. Who commits turnovers? Guys with the ball. We certainly aren't going to shy away from guys like LBJ, Kobe or Chris Paul just because they commit their share of miscues. 3. A general commentary on the turnovers category. It's the only cat you can win by having no one in the line-up. It's meant to reward efficiency and prevent "who's on the computer the most" roster churning in leagues, but it's taken a life of its own. If you use turnovers in your league, it should be a daily transaction league so you have the option of sitting players at the end of the week if you have built up a lead in other cats. You're right about the use of turnovers making a difference. The easiest example is Dwight Howard. He would be a first rounder if both FT% and TO's were discarded. In the end, to address your point directly, I suppose you should consider these picks mainly for an 8 cat league, and decide for yourself how it applies if you use turnovers. Certainly TO's will continue to be addressed when felt to be relevant in the player write-ups. Thanks for reading.

  • Maggette to the Spurs woulda been really interesting, but I guess it's all moot cuz sources say he's signing with the Warriors with a 5 year/$50 million deal. Can't blame him, that's serious money talking. On the fantasy front, this is the best possible ending for Maggette. With Baron and Pietrus gone, he could be the team's leading scorer, and although Sarge correctly points out his fantasy deficiencies, he scores a lot and gets to the line, which is an asset in certain leagues.

  • No, Sarge, you're mixed up. The Knicks are gonna get Jay-Z on the payroll and then sign LBJ to a max deal in a couple of years. Then Steve Nash and/or Chris Paul is/are gonna sign with them too apparently, as the Rotoworld wire threw out there in passing. And on top of that, they are gonna draft D.Rose! Wow! Bwahaha. Oh, and I think D'Antoni is just Isiah dressed up in disguise. Kinda like what Marvel Comics has going on right now with the Skrull invasion. How else can you explain the overtures to recruit players from the Suns roster?

  • Well put, coop. As I tried to say in the post, I hated to submarine you. But the bottom line was the article wasn't able to generate more than one comment, I always make my picks as part of the score, and so far no one else has propped up KD and Joe. As a partner for Nash, Deng is just good enough for them to be considered for the "W" but not good enough for it to be a no-brainer. You're absolutely right, this is not an NBA game, it's two-on-two. But everyone does bring their NBA game to the table. How can Nash and Deng win? On offense, I don't think you and I are in disagreement. They could run screen roll very effectively, or Nash darts into the paint like he does, gets open for a layup or he draws the two defenders and passes to an open Deng. Durant and Johnson like to shoot, and both can score but neither is dead eye. Both shot around 43% last year. Nash and Deng could probably coax them into taking a few outside jumpers. They make them, everything you say and more is true. They miss one or two though? There's no dominant rebounder is this four, so if Nash or Deng can grab the loose ball, they can win the possession battle and eke out the win. I don't see either side stopping the other very much, so the edge in my eyes comes in Nash's ballhandling and outside shooting. I feel in the end we're gonna have to agree to disagree. Appreciate the comments. Tell you what, if it's a tie again down the road, next time your pick moves on. peace.

  • Happy Mother's Day! Since I'm handing the ball over to Sarge next week, I'll leave my comments on this week's match-ups. In the first one, I like Josh Smith and Paul. This game would be a showcase for offensive talent, but Paul would be unstoppable. Granger on Smith would be pretty even, and there would be obvious difficulties checking 'Melo, but Paul will carry them through, with the help of some monster blocks from J-Smoove. In the second game, certainly Deron is good enough to use Dalembert to the best advantage and win, but Wade and Iverson just seem too quick, too good, and they would have so much fun playing with each other, that even with a few blocks by Dalembert, they'll find a way to put the ball in the hoop. I see Wade and A.I. running down all the loose balls and long rebounds. Props to you, Deron, but I'm going with the vets.
