  • Just thought I'd make a quick note on your unboxing video. It doesn't have an HD-DVD player. It has a Blu-ray player. They're two different things. Otherwise, nice unboxing. That computer is almost too nice.

  • That is one unbelievably nice laptop. I do hope that you don't make the giveaway entry method too difficult, though. While I can understand a site admin's desire to make the entry a little touch using methods like making a certain type of video or seeing who can rake up the most links back to a site on the internet, these methods come off as really irritating to users. I'm hoping for something along the lines of taking a photo of yourself next to the Gear Live homepage (on a computer screen) and sending it in. It's not too tough, but it keeps the people who roam the internet looking for easy-entry contests away. I know I would love to get a computer as amazing as that for free.

  • Any chance you'll be giving away this PC when you're done playing with it/reviewing it? I have a feeling that it would be a very popular contest. I'm curious to see how you think that Vista Ultimate stacks up compared to the latest Mac OS. I'd also be interested in what you think of the Media Center features and interface since I primarily use a Windows XP Media Center 2004 PC.

  • So far, this update seems to have fixed all the problems I had with 7.0. I'm hoping that it stays this way. I really hope that this update helped other people as much as it helped me.

  • That sounds like it would be a great thing to have for every toilet if it weren't for the excessive price. Maybe now some other company can come up with a cheaper alternative (and by cheaper, I mean much cheaper).

  • Actually, Microsoft didn't jump onto any wagon by offering old arcade games. Xbox Live arcade was done on the original Xbox as a test of its viability. This was done years before Nintendo even decided to add its virtual console to its then-unnamed Wii. Microsoft then decided to fully integrate this idea into its next console, making it more widely available. Obviously, this was the right course of action. The only company here copying anything is Sony.

  • As it turns out, I wasn't the only one having huge problems with iTunes 7 - the problem is actually pretty widespread. Article at Engadget: http://www.engadget.com/2006/09/14/itunes-7-turning-out-to-have-major-glitches/

  • OK, I don't care how many problems I've had up to this point with iTunes 7. It was all worth it because of one fantastic (and fun) feature - the third view button, the one closest to the search bar, lets you flip through your music by album cover. It is simply wonderful. I'm going to have a lot of fun playing with this. The only thing I don't like, though, is how if I have a few songs in an album done by multiple artists (instead of the main artist that did the rest of the album), it groups each individual artist(s) in that album separately, even though all the songs are part of the same album. I would really like it if they were grouped together, since they are on the same CD and have the same cover art.

  • Well, I uninstalled Quicktime and iTunes, but it changed nothing. I checked everywhere, did everything. Then... I increased the volume on the little bar next to the pause/play and skip buttons at the top left of iTunes (note that I had never changed this). All of a sudden, with the volume at max., it worked perfectly as always. Of course, if I lower the volume even a little, I get the static, so I just won't do that. Strangely, this volume bar isn't in sync with the system volume. It must only be the iTunes output volume. I do find it odd that I should have to adjust it so drastically after so many iTunes updates in the past, but at least it works now. Oh, and Steve, carry on with the good software - we'll call this a "Windows" bug, OK buddy? I just hope that Apple can figure out a way to make the update packages smaller in the future. 35 MB is crazy.

  • Well, I installed iTunes 7, and I wish I never had. Not only did I have to wait for the massive download (about 35 MB I believe), but this was also definitely the longest iTunes has ever taken to install for me. Then, after installing, for some reason it has to copy over 186 songs to the iPod I had connected to the computer via firewire, even though it already had all my music on it. After it was done with that, it went through my entire music library so it can do that gapless playback. Finally, it was done, so I start up some music. Guess what I hear? Static. Sure, I hear the music, but I also get a big earful of static. My creative soundblaster drivers are up-to-date, and my music and movies sound fine in every other program. Thanks, Steve, but you can keep your iTunes 7. Release a new version when it's done. Now I'm off to uninstall iTunes, reinstall it, and pray that it works this time (although I won't get my hopes up). The fact that iTunes seems a little less slow than usual is the least of my concerns. If it isn't broken, don't fix it. If you're wondering, I'm running Windows XP SP2 with Media Center 2004, 3.4 GHz Pentium 4 w/ HT, 2 GB ram, 250 GB 7200rpm HDD. I have never had a problem with iTunes before this installation.

  • Any idea yet when iTunes 7 will be available for download? The Apple site still has 6 as the most recent version. I want to try the new one now! OK, so I'm impatient, but it does sound like a good upgrade.

  • I'm really glad to see that Microsoft is making some good progress on this browser upgrade. My primary computer is packed up until I go back to school in about a week, and I was running IE7 beta 2 on it before the summer. I was pretty impressed with it, especially the large amount of screen space available (even more than I get with Firefox). I was happy to see that they released beta 3 over the summer, but I'm even happier to see this. If they addressed all the bugs that beta 2 had, then this should be a very good download. I do, however, hope that they added some more customization options (such as the ability to move around the buttons).

  • Right after I saw this I went and joined both betas (one from Yahoo, one from Microsoft) and started toying around with it. Of the two IM clients, I primarily use Windows Live Messenger, so I went ahead and added my Yahoo Messenger contacts to my Windows Live contacts. However, I noticed that even when one of my contacts was online and visible in Yahoo Messenger, I could not see that he was online using Windows Live Messenger. My best guess is that in order for this to work, both people - you and the person on the other network - need to be in their respective betas. Because of this, I think that until adoption of this beta becomes more prevalent, this feature will be sort of worthless (although still a welcome addition). I just think that it may be a while before everyone on my contacts list upgrades to Windows Live Messenger and Yahoo Messenger 8 (with voice) Beta.

  • Those TV's sound amazing. Products like this make me wish that I had more money to spare ($2700 is a bit too expensive for me). I did find it a little disappointing that it's not 1080p. I think that if LCD TV's make it to 120 Hz in 1080p, the ultimate in TV will have been achieved (or at least until a new, better TV resolution comes along). I'm really glad that they're including all those HDMI and component inputs, though. It seems like that's the way that HDTV's are starting to go - no more 1 HDMI input TV's. When I was looking at HDTV's at the store the other day, it seemed like most of Samsung's HDTV's included multiple HDMI ports, as well as a plethora of other inputs. I really hope that other companies follow suit.
