WWDC MacBook Pro refresh

WWDC kicks off a week from today, with a keynote address to be delivered by Apple CEO, Tim Cook, and crew. Many are expecting that we'll hear all about iOS 6 and OS X Mountain Lion. While that may be the case, 9to5Mac is reporting that Apple is also set to unleash a slew of Mac updates at its annual developer event as well. In fact, Mac hardware may end up stealing the show, as Apple is purportedly set to refresh four out of the five Macs in its lineup, which would make it the biggest simultaneous Mac hardware launch in company history.

New iPhone 3.95 inches

Reports are coming in today that shed more light on what major changes we may be seeing when Apple introduces the new iPhone later this year. According to 9to5Mac, Apple is currently testing two specific iPhone devices that both feature a 3.95-inch display with a resolution of 1136 x 640. This would be the first time that the iPhone ventured away from the 3.5-inch display, as each model since the beginning has used the same screen size.

4-inch iPhone display

This morning The Wall Street Journal is reporting that the next Apple iPhone will prominently feature a display that's "at least 4-inches diagonally." additionally, the device is set to go into production next month. The result? Approximately a 30% increase in viewing area on the iPhone.

WSJ goes on to report that Apple will tap Sharp, Japan Display Inc., and LG Display as the suppliers for the displays. We've been hearing that the new iPhone would have a 4-inch display for a while now, but when The Journal reports it with confidence, you've gotta take notice.

This is a welcome bit of news for many iPhone fans, as many have grown weary of the 3.5-inch display that each iPhone, including the current iPhone 4S model, has used. The cries of many will likely be addressed by Apple with the introduction of its next flagship smartphone.

Get a look at the commercial spot that Apple put together to promote the new iPad, focusing specifically on the super-high resolution Retina Display. The latest Apple tablet was announced at today's iPad event.

Senseg haptic iPad

There's a little company out there called Senseg that makes tactile displays using an electrostatic field to simulate the feeling of friction and different textures right on the touchscreen, and the last-minute rumor of the day is that the technology might be the big secret feature of the iPad HD. The folks over at Pocket-link spoke with a Senseg rep, and were told that the company wouldn't be making any statements until "after Apple's announcement." Kind of odd and interesting. Either the person knowns they need to keep their mouth shut, or there's really nothing there and they just want a little publicity. However, in mid-2011 it was reported that Senseg was partnering with "a certain tablet maker based in Cupertino," and Apple's invitation for today's event does read "We have something you really have to see. And touch." Is that a vague clue? We'll know in under an hour.

Now, the folks over at iFixIt are chiming in, explaining the process of figuring out that the purported iPad 3 panel will feature a Retina Display. Check out the video above for the details. Of course, Apple has yet to officially announce anything having to do with the next iPad, and won't be saying anything until March 7, so this is all just a hypothesis. Nevertheless, this is  what's gonna happen. Expect it!

galaxy nexus vs iphone 4s

This picture of the Samsung Galaxy Nexus next to the iPhone 4S says so much to us. Seriously, what is up with that display size on the Galaxy Nexus? I mean, I'll be the first to admit that I'd like to see the iPhone screen size get bumped up from the 3.5-inches that it's been at since the original iPhone hit the scene, but the Galaxy Nexus display is a whopping 4.65-inches. Sure, some people would love a display that size, but for the flagship Nexus device that launches Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, it just feels impractical. The screen is so big that one-handed use of the phone get frustrating, and I'm someone with large hands!

What do you think? Are you good with a 4.65-inch smartphone, or is that a bit much for your tastes?
