Prince Seeks to Protect Artistic Content on the Net

Posted by Sheila Franklin Categories: Internet, Music

PrincePrince has asked YouTube to remove unauthorized clips of his recent concert in London. There have been more than 1,000 of them eliminated in the past week by Web Sheriff, a company he hired to do the dirty work. He is also trying to stop unauthorized filesharing and items sold on eBay without his permission. Managing director of the company John Giacobbi said, “Prince feels very strongly that people should remember his concerts as they were, not as some grainy mobile phone footage.”

Considering all the freebies he gave away to UKers, we think this is a decent request on his part. We have been to several concerts of late where security will no longer allow cameras to be taken inside and suspect it is a sign of more restrictions to come.

Unboxing Flip Video

It’s no top of the line model, but we still dig our new Flipvideo. Going through video withdrawal, we purchased one on a whim and set out to test our new toy. It is so simple to operate that we are eternally grateful to puredigital. The MSRP for the cam is $149.99, but we managed to purchase one on Amazon for $130.00 with free shipping. We figure we had better invest the savings into rechargeable batteries as this puppy only comes with 2 standard AA’s. Details to follow.

Apple iPod touch

We’ve heard it was coming, and today made it official - the is now a reality. Those of you hoping for what would essentially be an “ without the phone” have gotten your wish. The iPod touch has the same 3.5-inch screen size and resolution as the iPhone, and even has WiFi built-in. Safari is included as an application, as is YouTube. It even has that multitouch goodness we’ve come to know and love. As for the differences between the iPod touch and the iPhone, those are more hardware related rather than software related. The iPod touch is just 8mm thick, down from 11.5mm for the iPhone. It also comes in two storage capacity sizes - 16GB and 8GB - which means you get double the storage that you’d get on the iPhone if you go with the top model. You will be able to pick up a 16GB iPod touch for $399 USD, while and 8GB version will sell for $299. It ships “in a few weeks” and will be available worldwide. No more waiting until Apple finds an iPhone distribution partner to get your multitouch on!

iMac Multitouch Not Announced

Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Apple, PC / Laptop, Rumors, Videos

Nor will it be, unfortunately. We’ve been getting quite a few submissions from readers about this awesome YouTube video that someone came up with as part of his demo reel for ad agencies. We know, the iMac Multitouch featured in this video is pretty bad ass…but think about it for a moment - do you really want to be reaching out to touch your computer screen constantly? That would get fairly tiring…this isn’t Fit after all. If were going to go the multitouch route on their computers, we think it should be on some sort of keyboard touchpad. Hang in there folks, the Apple event gets underway in under an hour now - that’s where we expect the real news to surface.

i-Caught Takes YouTube to Prime Time

i-Caught

i-Caught is another example of how the Internet is influencing the “real” world. Beginning August 7, ABC is launching a newsmag for YouTubers which will feature breaking news stories and investigations, political issues, celeb sightings, and Internet hoaxes. With anchor Bill Weir, the program plans on taking original videos and some from other viral sites.

“The watershed event that changed newsgathering was the London terror attack in 2005,” said Executive Producer David Sloan. “There were people on that subway who did not know if they would live or die, but they got out their cell phones and started shooting.”

The network is looking for the juciest of clips such as Hoff’s drunken hamburger feed and Michael Richard’s tirade at The Comedy Club. We suggest before they begin airing the show that you go out with your video cam and start looking for your 15 minutes of fame since ABC is still taking submissions.

E3 2007: Nintendo’s Press Conference Recap And Impressions

Shigeru Miyamoto Mario Luigi

As with the Microsoft conference before it, I was confined to my hotel Wi-Fi to take in Nintendo’s E3 press conference. But, unlike Microsoft’s, I’m walking away thoroughly and utterly disappointed. I’m going to go ahead and spoil part of the full story from after the break: there was no mention of Smash Bros. being online. Me = worried much.

Set your expectations low before you view the rest after the break.

New iPhone Commercial: YouTube

Apple has revealed that is the twelfth application on the . We have all wondered out loud about the lack of balance shown on the iPhone’s Home screen, what with two rows of four icons, and a third row with only three. Then one of the iPhone commercials gave a peek that there would be twelve, but we just couldn’t see what it was. Now we know. In conjunction with releasing YouTube on Apple TV, the company made it know that a customized YouTube viewer application would ship on the iPhone as well. We must say, we were underwhelmed at first, since the iPhone has Safari and should thusly be able to view YouTube anyway - but when we saw the video of YouTube in action on the device, it looked very slick. Just one more thing to look forward to come June 29.
