YouTube Testing Pay Per Download Videos

TouTube logo YouTube has begun testing a sub-set of their partners with a charge for download. Most of them are available for about $.99 but only as MP4 files. They can be purchased through Google Checkout. This may put an end to the problems that site has had with studios like Warner. If the program is successful, look for them to allow all of its partners to charge for movies and TV shows on the site.

Rome Sanctifies…YouTube?

Vatican City, home to the Pope and seat of the Holy Roman Empire, has launched it’s very own YouTube channel. Many of those in the media say this is as good as an endorsement from His Holiness Pope Benedict XVI.

Google managing director of European sales and media solutions, Henrique de Castro, was in Vatican City for the announcement of the agreement between the search engine and the Holy See.

Kodak Zx1 Camcorder Kodak has introduced the Zx1 Digital Video Cam, their entry into the inexpensive pocket-sized camcorders. Weather resistant and usable in bright or low lighting, it captures 720p HD at 60 fps and has a 2.0-inch LCD screen. It has an expandable SD/SDHC Card slot for memory of up to 32 GB, giving it up to 10 hours of HD video. Available in 5 different colors this April, a remote is optional and it has ArcSoft Media Impressions software for editing and uploading to YouTube and other sites. An HDMI cable and AA Ni-MH rechargeable batteries are included in the $149.99 price.

It has a 4GB memory, is waterproof and works well in low lighting. It has an on/off switch that doubles as a lens cover. Sony Webbie HD Mini-Camcorder

It’s Sony’s turn to join in on the inexpensive, YouTube loving camcorders. The Webbie produces up to 8.5 hours of HD MPEG-4 video or thousands of 5 MP images. At a size of 2.4 x 1.7-inches, it houses a CMOS sensor and records on the company’s ultra-small Memory Stick PRO Duo media. The Webbie also features a 2.5 swivel screen, an 5x optical zoom and simplified software at a price of $199.99. This spring, they will also have an upright Webbie available for $169.99.

Panasonic VIERA CAST Adopts Amazon VOD

Panasonic/Amazon logo Watch out, Netflix, you have some competition. Panasonic has now announced that it is teaming with Amazon Video On Demand on their 2009 VIERA CAST enabled HDTVs and Blu-ray products. Grab yourself one and you will have access to over 40,000 titles. In addition, you can get YouTube, Picasa, Bloomberg News and weather. We have to admit we like VOD as they often have some freebies and that is a good thing. Look for the new VIERA CAST early this year.

Netflix streaming hits VIZIO Connected HDTV [UPDATED]

Vizio Connected HDTV Netflix VIZIO is launching a new platform that they’re calling “Conneced HDTV,” and with it comes confirmation of the second Netflix direct-to-TV partnership. VIZIO’s Connected HDTV platform is designed to compliment traditional television viewing. You just connect the television to your home network, and if there’s nothing good on, you can go into Netflix, and I am sure there will be other services (YouTube? Hulu?) that you’ll be able to pull up as well. This is a trend we are definitely liking, let’s eliminate set-top boxes while providing more viewing options for the consumer.

EDIT: Okay, we just got more details on this. Aside from Netflix, the VIZIO Connected HDTV platform also brings Amazon Video on Demand, Pandora, Flickr, Blockbuster OnDemand, Rhapsody, Adobe Flash content, games from Accedo Broadband, and the Yahoo! widget engine. Very, very interesting!

RCA announces EZ209HD, their slimmest Small Wonder camcorder ever

We are loving just how prevalent small HD cams are becoming, and the RCA EZ209HD looks to be an impressive unit when it comes to that category. This is the company’s slimmest and “sexiest” (their word, not mine) Small Wonder camcorder ever, and captures high definition video while sporting a 2-inch display. Even better, though, unlike some of the other handheld HD flash camcorders we’ve seen, the EZ209HD even has an HDMI port, so you can plug directly into a television to watch your home movies. The rechargeable battery lasts for two hours, which is also nice, and the camera even supports a 60fps Sports Mode for fast action. Once your recordings are done, you can easily upload them to YouTube and Box.net. You’ll be able to get your hands on an RCA EZ209HD by the end of this quarter, and it’ll sell for $119.99.

Samsung HDTV With Internet@TV

Samsung has announced that many of its HDTVs released this year will feature Internet@TV service. The 5th generation Yahoo Widget Engine allows users to check news headlines, stocks, and search Internet based photos and videos on such sites as Flickr, and Yahoo News and Finance. Social interaction will also be available as well as access to YouTube, eBay and other sites. Connection is by Ethernet or optional wireless USB dongle.

Verismo VuNow PoD VN100SD - YouTube on TV

Verismo has unveiled its VuNow PoD VN100SD that has the ability to let you watch online video content on your TV without routing through a computer. It connects like a DVD player and needs an Internet connection for its Ethernet port. Seek out videos by logging into your YouTube account and using the interface and keypad. The VN100SD is available for $99.00, while you can get the HD version for $149.00. An additional $29.00 gives you access to Bit Torrents and global Internet TV.
