Samsung isn't new to the tablet game, but the company's newest offering - the Samsung Series 7 Slate - may be exactly what buyers have been waiting for in Windows tablets. We went hands on with the new Series 7 Slate, and we were pleased with what we saw.

The Samsung Series 7 Slate has a spacious 11.6-inch display, with 1366-by-768 resolution and an eye-popping 16 million colors. It should even look good outdoors, with 400-nit brightness coming from Samsung's sharp-looking SuperBright LED backlit display. That extra inch of real estate for the screen also helps to alleviate one of the biggest problems we've seen with Windows tablets, namely the fact that Windows icons become miniscule on a smaller screen. The touch screen is capable of registering up to 10 fingers at a time, or it can be used with a digital stylus for more precise selection or handwriting recognition.

The Series 7 Slate is also light, weighing 1.96 pounds - lighter than many smaller 10-inch tablets we've seen, like the Acer Iconia W500-BZ467, which weighed in at 2.1 pounds. It's thin too, measuring less than a half inch thick. The back appears to be brushed aluminum, and the rich texture of the cool metal surface leaves you feeling that the slate, though thin and light, is still substantial.

Windows 7 sells 240 million its first year

Microsoft is celebrating the first year anniversary of Windows 7 by doing a celebratory dance around the numbers - 240 million numbers to be exact.

“I think Windows 7 has exceeded expectations,” said Gavriella Schuster, the general manager of Windows Product Management.

The 240 million licenses sold makes up a 17% market share for the year-old OS, and 93% of new consumer PCs are running Windows 7, while 90% of companies have either made the transition, or are making it, to Windows 7.

Best Buy Focusing on Tablets This Holiday Season

While the tablet industry hasn’t exactly skyrocketed yet, Best Buy is gearing for change this holiday season. With the Apple’s   being the pioneer for pushing tablets into the spotlight, other new tablets (specifically those powered by Windows 7) will be popping up soon this holiday season, and Best Buy is set to capitlize on the tablet surge. Shawn Score, the president of Best Buy Mobile stated “we will have a great assortment of them. It won’t be 32, but it also won’t be one, like we have today.” Score further stated that “like e-readers over the last couple years, we think customers will think of Best Buy for tablets and expect us to have the right ones.” 

As of right now, entertainment giant Best Buy only carries the Apple tablet, but expect tablets from Samsung, Acer and Research In Motion to most likely grace Best Buy stores nationwide this holiday season.
