Microsoft Drops Xbox 360 Prices in Japan

Microsoft will be reducing the price of this generation’s Xbox 360 Arcade in Japan this week to ¥19,800 (~$183.00.) Next week, expect the cost of the 60GB 360 to drop to ¥29,800 (~$275.00) and the 120GB Elite to go down to ¥39,800 (~$368.00.) This means that it will be cheaper than the Wii in that country. However, it doesn’t necessarily mean that it will top it in sales. Stay tuned for U.S. price cut announcements later this month.

Pega Shark Light Gun

While we admit that some of us are overly pacifistic, we figure it is better to take your anger out on a video game than life. The Pega Shark Light Gun for Wii is 8.9 x 2.99 x 1.69-inches and weighs a mere 8.57 oz. Its trigger takes the place of the B key, while the functions of the others remain the same. Pega suggests that during a gunfight you use the nunchuck and Shark Gun together. The controller is available for only $10.86, less if you buy in quantity with your buds.

E3 2008: Cooking Mama World Kitchen Wii Preview

For those of you out there who are fans of the Cooking Mama series of games for the Nintendo DS and Wii, you may be delighted to know that Majesco is about ready to spring the second installment of the Wii portion of the series on you, coming this October. We were able to get a quick demo of the game during E3 2008, and immediately realized that the successor to the original seems to be a better game all around. Specifically, a lot of the frustrating actions you needed to do in the original are replaced by very intuitive Wii Remote actions that anyone can pull off. Also, if you mess up, you aren’t pretty much eliminated like you were the first time around. A few new game modes round things out. Hit the video for all the details, and prepare yourself for more cartoony kitchen battles.

Sanyo Wii Charger Set

Sanyo has unveiled their Contactless Charger Set for the Wii controller. Place your remote into the stand and it will charge in about 220 minutes. Licensed by Nintendo, the device can handle up to 4 controllers sequentially. The custom nickel-metal hydride batteries will last for about 6.5 hours of play. Available in Japan August 25, the set includes a battery pack, charger, and AC adapter. We suspect it won’t be long before every gamer can have one.

Bleeding Edge TV 282: E3 2008: Nintendo Announces Wii Sports Resort, Wii MotionPlus, WiiSpeak

At E3 2008, Nintendo put on quite a show at their keynote. Among the announcements were Wii Sports Resort, a sequel to the much acclaimed Wii Sports, Wii Music, a music creator with no talent required. Also featured were Shaun White Snowboarding and Rayman Raving Rabbids TV Party, Grand Theft Auto Chinatown, Animal Crossing Cityfolk, Guitar Hero On Tour, Spore Creatures, Star Wars: Clone Wars, and a new Pokemon game.

Nintendo also announced new accessories, the Wii MotionPlus, an add-on to the Wii Remote that adds real-to-life motion sensing; and WiiSpeak, a set-top microphone that enables audio chat in online multiplayer games. Logitech Cordless Wii Keyboard

Logitech has unveiled their Cordless Keyboard for Wii. Licensed by Nintendo, it is designed for chatty games and the Wii Internet Channel. At a size of 11.85 x 6.57 x 0.87 inches, the keyboard has special keys such as Zoom In/Out, Forward/Back, and Quit. Plug in the mini-receiver and let the games begin and, when you are done, the receiver snaps into the back of the keyboard. Look for an August debut with a price of $49.99.

Nintendo announces Wii MotionPlus controller add-on

Right before this morning’s Xbox Media Briefing here at E3 2008, Nintendo announced the new Wii Motion Plus controller add-on. Basically, Wii MotionPlus is an accessory that attaches to the end of the Wii Remote, allowing it to more accurately trace motion in 3D space by constantly monitoring and orienting the controller. Every movement you make with the WiiMote is rendered indentically onscreen, resulting in true 1:1 response. Basically, the device gives you the Wii Remote as it should have been since the start.

Stix Wii-type Controllers for PC

It’s about time somebody came up with Wii-type controllers for PCs. GoLive2 has introduced Stix. The motion-sensing controls feature LED lights and come in three styles and will be compatible with games on their site, as well as offering third party and independent game support. The Stix 100 and 200 will only work with 2D games, while the Stix 400 can also be used with 3D titles. No price has been announced as yet, but look for an August arrival.

Bleeding Edge TV 275: The EeeStick motion game controllers from Asus

At the Asus booth during Computex 2008, we had the pleasure of looking at their new EeeStick video gaming controllers. Similar to the Nintendo Wii‘s Wii Remote and Nunchuk, aiming and player movement is controlled by swinging the right controller around and moving the left thumbstick.

Sunrise Kuo of Asus showed us a demo of the controllers in action. When they’re ready in July or August, they will be packaged with the Asus EeePC 901 or EeePC 1000 models.

Sony Ericsson F305 Gamer Cell Phone

Sony Ericsson F305 Sony Ericsson has unveiled its F305, a cell phone for those who are Wii-happy. The cellie supports 3D Java games as well as Nintendo’s swipe and swing gesturing control. At a size of 3.8 x 1.9 x .6-inches and a weight of 3.4oz., it has a 2-inch, 262k, 176 x 220 pixel TFT display. The battery allows 8 hours of gaming per charge, and other features include Bluetooth support, an M2 memory card slot, a 2 megapixel cam, and built-in stereo speakers. That’s all well and good, but think how silly you will look when the person in the next cubicle sees you during your lunch break playing “Johnny Crash, Stuntman” and makes you a reservation at the nearest rubber room. Look for the F305 to debut in Q4.
